I disagree. Civility is always socially constructed, but in this case, I don’t see that the benefits of avoiding descriptions of people outweigh the disadvantages of such avoidance, nor is it the only way to obtain those benefits.
I may not have been clear. I was supporting moving away from lookism, which implies a valuation or devaluation, empowerment or disempowerment by the terms used. Lookism has a lot of commonality with other -isms, racism, sexism. But I don’t want to derail the discussion centering on racism and political correctness. SDMB can take on eliminating lookism after racism, sexism and misogyny. I won’t hold my breath.
