Sure. They have a right to do business. They don’t have a right to someone else’s property though. I don’t think a cake baker could refuse them a swastika cake though. That’s discrimination!

I probably shouldn’t have framed it as a liberal conservative thing. In my opinion, it’s more of a live and let live attitude with also a healthy dose of forgiveness. So what if some nutty professor has an obnoxious opinion? She shouldn’t get death threats.

But what to do? I don’t know. I just find it worrisome that stuff can haunt you forever and worldwide now.

No it isn’t. So long as the baker refuses to bake swastika cakes for anyone, they are within their rights.

I certainly agree that people with nutty opinions shouldn’t get death threats. But I don’t think death threats have been a point of contention; rather, we’ve been disagreeing about boycotts and general criticism.

I never said don’t boycott. I said in the modern era the reach and speed of mob justice is vastly greater now so calls to boycott or whatever should be considered with that in mind. Calling the police is fine if certain conditions have been met. “Swatting” someone is never fine.

“Mob justice” is a ridiculous term to use. Mob justice results in someone hanging from a lamppost, or at the very least in someone receiving lots of death/rape threats. An illegal act is requisite to the concept of “mob justice”.

When a lot of people decide to act legally in unison, a mob that ain’t.

No, they don’t go to jail, because there is no imaginary LAW against “hate speech”. But students do suffer consequences, from suspension to expulsion.
