Political Debates forum

I think it would be a great idea to have a “Political Debates” forum where all political debates would happen, so as not to clutter the “Great Debates” forum.

I think Great Debates should be reserved for great debates, and not be filled with “Kerry did this” and “Bush did that”. I don’t think current political discussions are “long-running discussions of the great questions of our time”, which is supposed to be the description of Great Debates.

For example, some of the current threads in Great Debates:

  • Bush Supporters: What do you expect?
  • How did the Democratic Party blow this election as badly as they did? How??
  • What can we expect of Bush’s second term?
  • Kerry Concedes The Race to Bush!

would be better suited for the Political Debates forum.

What do you guys think about a new forum for Political Debates? Yeah or nay?

(I wasn’t sure which forum to post this in, but since it is a poll, I thought IMHO would be a good place)

I think this is a great idea. And I participate in both kinds equally: which is to say, very little. But I do love reading them, and would love to see them seperated.

I agree. Its becoming the mini-Pit with just the cussing deleted. GD should be for the the questions of life, the universe and everything, not petty squabling. I pretty much stay out of GD.

Seriously, is there a way to get the Administrators’ attention on this, to see what they have to say?

Should this be moved to The Pit, which is “the place for all complaints and other discussion regarding administration of the SDMB” ?

I once spoke to one of the mods about this.

Their response was “Who the hell would want to moderate it?”

Civics begins at home. I nominate polerius to moderate the Political Mudslinging Forum.

Moderate it? Hell, just throw some raw meat in there every now and then and lock the door.
