Politically, what incentive is there for the opposition party to compromise?

I see it as the two faces of the same coin.

What it matters is that the fossil fuel interests do care about who gets elected, and it is related indeed on who will compromise or not. The results are being seen, congress critters that do think that there is no problem to begin with will vote to fight what is left as the remaining tool to do something about this issue: regulation.

The point was related to what should happen if we do want to leave a good nation and planet for our descendants. I noted what happened recently to the ones that did look at the science in congress. Like with the case of prohibition, with public opinion changing so much that it took many politicians by surprise, I expect that soon the problems coming from the rise of the oceans alone will tell many how dumb the current republican congress critters really are.
