do you not like alfredo sauce either?
NOT sausage gravy. Ick. I voted yes and then y’all started talking sausage. I’m talking regular gravy here.
Sausage gravy IS regular gravy. It’s the other stuff that’s the also-ran.
Well, see, that’s different. Maybe because it’s called “sauce” instead of “gravy” and therefore my brain doesn’t short-circuit at the color of it. I’m not claiming to have a good reason!
Better stay away from old-country Italians, then. They put “tomato gravy” on stuff!
Gravy IS sauce. Same process, different name. Just like meatloaf is sausage.
Sigmagirl: What do you consider “regular” gravy?
I’ve never seen biscuits served with anything but sausage gravy–and I’m a Northerner. My Polish-born father would even make it with white sausage gravy.
I voted Ewww, but then again I’m a Brit so it doesn’t really count.
Totally loathed the stuff.
I like them all right, but I’ve never made them for myself nor would I go to great pains to do so.
Well, I tried it for the first time this morning. Take me from the Hmmmm…sounds good to the Whatevs column. Not worth passing up the corned beef hash for.
I always thought it looked “Eww!”, so I never tried it until I was an adult. I love it but it is one of those things that can so easily be nasty. It’s really disappointing to decide to splurge on calories and order it somewhere only to get served the wallpaper paste tasting stuff with hockey puck biscuits. Never, ever but sausage gravy in a can/jar.
Right!
I love it, but seems very heavy/salty so I try to stay away from it.
My family has the custom of dotting ketchup on top for a tangy twist. It sounds weird but it’s quite good.
Why do you ask? The two have 0 ingredients in common.
See, I thought we were talking about like chicken à la king or stew some other type dish that might be served over biscuits. I hadn’t read the poll yet. I don’t like sausage gravy; in fact, it makes me a little queasy thinking about it. So it never occurred to me that that was what the poll was about. I roasted a chicken Sunday night for dinner, and made gravy, and I guess that was what was in my mind.
granted TRUE alfredo is just cheese and butter, alfredo SAUCE - the stuff that comes from a can - is pretty much dairy + thickener which is more or less what white gravy is.
I’ll take your word for it. Alfredo sauce has only 3 ingredients, so I’ve never felt the need to buy a jar of the stuff.
Never part of my family’s repertoire growing up. I’d see it in the occasional breakfast menu and be kind of baffled as to why folks thought that sounded good - I’m generally not a soggy bread person either.
But several years back some friends who are originally from Missouri made me some from scratch at home for breakfast. Loaded with sausage - as pointed out, this stuff exactly. My lord is it good. Corned beef and hash good? Almost.
I couldn’t eat it often, but that stuff is awesome.
I like my biscuits and gravy loaded with black pepper. In fact, this thread has made me decide that Sunday’s breakfast will be chicken-fried steak and eggs, with a side of biscuits and gravy.
Yum.
Chicken a la king is basically gravy taken to extremes. It’s a white sauce on steroids.
