My husband and I drink a bottle of wine every night with dinner which gives me a nice buzz. But most weekends we’ll go out with friends and really tie one on. Even if we stay home on the weekends, we manage to get pretty sloshed. Essentially alcohol is the glue that holds our marriage together ;).
I drink now and then, but never much. Usually just one drink or two at a party or with friends; I’ve never been more than lightly buzzed. I don’t really see the appeal in going much farther than that. :o
My point of no return used to be three bourbon & cokes; if I drank three and quit, I was okay. If I drank four then I would drink until I passed out or ran out of money, whichever came first. If I didn’t have much money to start with, I would drink cheap draft beer until the money was gone. I got to a point where I would actually hallucinate a glass of bourbon & coke, usually about a half hour before the end of work. I could see myself pick it up and I could hear the ice tinkle against the glass and I could feel the way it always felt when I actually drank it. If the hallucinations had only made me drunk, I would never have left my desk. But my God, I did love the lowlife bars I favored and the lowlife people I hung with. Like draws like, I guess. I suffered from migraine headaches from the time I was about twelve years old and I always had Fiorinal #3 at home. I also usually had bourbon at home, too, and I would often wash down a couple of those pills with a straight shot of bourbon. It’s a wonder it didn’t kill me; God knows I didn’t give a damn if it did. And things went downhill from there.
Now I don’t drink at all, but I still have the migraines on occasion and I still have the craving for the pills but my Darling Marcie doles them out only as required.
From my perspective, drinking to the point of being drunk is nothing to boast of, but I ain’t gonna preach. YMMV and all that.
Drunk, maybe once or twice a year.
Inebriated, maybe once or twice a week.
I do. About once every two weeks or so on a Friday or Saturday night.
I drink almost every night - having a glass of wine right now - but I don’t get drunk in the slightest. I come home from work and have my 2 or 3 glasses of wine or 1 or 2 beers, and barely get a buzz from them.
But every other weekend or so we’ll go downtown and have a few beers. The beer we drink is usually over 8% abv, so they can be dangerous and they kind of sneak up on you. It took me a few outings to realize I needed to slow down when drinking them, and always drink equal amounts of water. Now, I get a nice buzz going.
Then once every other month or so we’ll go to a couple of the seedier bars in town and do a shot or two after our brewpub trip. (We ALWAYS take cabs, btw.) I don’t slam shots, I don’t see the point, really. I like to sip whatever it is I’m drinking - whiskey, vodka, tequila, etc., so it’s usually the highest end stuff these seedy bars happen to have. And I’m not falling over or making a scene or anything like that. Just chatting with my honey or some friends and having a good time. And I rarely wake up with hangovers anymore. Just not worth it and no fun at all.
Nope, never have. I don’t like any of the alcoholic drinks that I’ve tried, and I don’t see the appeal in being drunk.
I stop after one or two drinks (I can faintly feel some effects even after half a glass of wine), at which point I’m buzzed but not drunk. I get very badly hung over, don’t particularly care for hte taste of alcohol (I love mixed drinks though) and hate the effects of it. Also, it doesn’t play well with my anti-depressants. So I drink little and rarely, and get non-alcoholic drinks when I can.
As for what is drunk–I asked a friend once and she said “when everything is funny”.
It’s been a long time since I got falling over drunk. A night in a pub (7pm - midnight) just wouldn’t get me there. I’d be well oiled, as in very talkative etc. but well able to drive home(I kid, I don’t even own a car :D)
I like drinking and I like the feel of drink on me. Last wkend I was bored and home alone and drank a bottle of whiskey with DVD’s just to see how drunk it got me, I moved onto the wine after it was finished … hicup
Not anymore. I used to get falling down smashed ( literal serious loss of coordination ) on 1.) a couple of camping trips every year and 2.) maybe 2-3 parties a year.
That pretty much ended when I hit 30 ( I’m closing in on 41 ). But even then I was never an every day drinker and never frequented bars. Now days I’m still overwhelmingly a social drinker, only occasionally a solitary one. Drinking socially I typically drink until I’m a little buzzed, which I enjoy, but not to the point of slurring or stumbling. Maybe 2-5 drinks over the course of an afternoon or evening, drinks in this case being the equivalent to a whole beer or a glass of wine.
On average I probably drink any sort of booze no more often than once a week. I only very rarely drink on a work night and I carefully monitor my intake if I’m going to be driving.
Cluricaun, what’s wrong with Miller Lite, may I ask!?
For starters, it’s the worst of the American macrobrews, which are generally held in pretty low esteem to begin with (though sometimes unfairly, IMO.)
I have not had a drink in almost exactly 11 years.
I will start again when I turn 65.
At that point I will get drunk with quite some frequency.
That means the room is spinning and I am having difficulty walking and making it to my bed. I prefer to get that drunk alone. I like to keep it a bit more under control around others and then continue to drink till I pass out when I get home.
Same here.
I didn’t really drink until I was about 30. I don’t typically get drunk, but when I drink, I do it because I want to feel the effects. Otherwise, I’d drink something much less pricey. Unfortunately, because of past medical history, the difference in affect that alcohol has on me with a full stomach vs an empty one is vastly, VASTLY exaggerated from what it is for most people, and if I’m not thinking about it and haven’t eaten, I can get extremely drunk very quickly and not realize it’s happened until too late. This is never pleasant.
For me a good buzz is being able to do the microphone part on Rock Band, but not be too wobbly to make it back up the stairs without having to hold the hand rail. (Totally sober I will not sing in front of people.)
ETA: Oh, and at 36, I’ve never had a hangover, though I have had a handful of nights that I drank enough to not remember well/at all.
Just a high school graduate here, never understood a word u said…
Don’t get out much…this is probably reason why…
I don’t drink at all at home, and in fact don’t really keep alcohol in the house. I drink socially when going out, but 2-3 drinks of the martini-type variety would be about the limit for me. More commonly, I’ll have one alcoholic drink, and then switch to non-alcoholic after that.
I don’t drink much at home but…I really do like to go rockin’ out, catch a good band or two and have some drinks and a bunch of dances.
I don’t usually fool with beer. Bourbon whiskey is my drink of choice and I drink at a pace to get and maintain a good buzz. It’s been years since I drank so much that I considered myself “drunk”.
Whatcha talkin bout, I’ve neer been drunked falls over
(Actually, I get pleasantly buzzed or, at worst, very very giggly. Never really had an episode of vomit over someone’s shoes–or even a headache the next morning. Poison of choice tends to be wine or champagne.)
I’ve always been of the opinion that there is no reason to drink the foul tasting swill that I can afford EXCEPT to get drunk. Therefore, if I’m drinking I’m doing it until my stomach demands that I stop. This usually occurs around the 10th drink or so.
Oddly, I can never seem to get drunk enough to lose control of my actions or reasoning ability. I pass out well before picking up random chicks for drunk sex becomes a good idea (not saying this is a bad trait to possess, but I do find it to be an odd one).
The stage of falling down drunk, I did exactly three times in my life, for the experience. I didn’t much like the feeling, but I did like the freedom (I can do what I want, I’m drunk!) And the amusement of the people around me who liked that my normally so uber-sensible self was getting drunk with them.
If I serve wine with a meal, we drink untill the bottle is empty. Mostly to add a little festivity and for the taste. As we buy the typical small Dutch 250 cc bottles, and we share, that’s about one and a half glass per person.
If I am at a party, I will drink port wine untill I feel pleasantly buzzed, so that’s two glasses, and then stop, so I’m sober enough again when it is time to go home.
Now ask me about cookies and candy.
