Poll: Gender Preference for Rock Band "Rush"

Female, can’t stand Rush. Ick.

Male, never heard them. Probably won’t like them (I like Tull, but loathe Pink Floyd & every other prog rock act I’ve ever heard)

Male, not interested in the band nor the pundit.

Hmm, very interesting - maybe the division is more along the lines of “Rush - Hate 'em or love 'em.” aruqvan, that’s the one Rush album we have (and the only one I have any interest in getting), and it ain’t half bad.

Male - I like everything pre-Grace Under Pressure. After that they started to suck.

Female. Love everything before Power Windows. After that, not interested.

Male. Rush fan since 1976. Owned every album up to “Signals”, saw every tour between “A Farewell To Kings” and “Grace Under Pressure”. Quit listening to them in the mid-80’s when I thought they were trying to sound too much like the Police. I probably need to go back and listen to some of those albums I missed.

Male. They’re ok, but far from my favorite band, even my favorite prog band (Which is King Crimson, if you care.) I respect their talents and like their instrumental music, but Geddy Lee’s singing really gets on my nerves, and their Ayn Rand worshipping sub D&D lyrics are just absurd.

As an aside, I wonder what Rand would have thought of them, given that she hated rock music but craved adoration.

I kind of liked “2112”, although I think I liked the concept better than the execution. I suppose they’ve recording something else at some point but I could not tell you what it was/is.

Man, leave me unimpressed.

Male American. Big into prog, but never really got into Rush. Count me as “meh” I guess.

A King Crimson poll would be even more divisive.

I went to see The Musical Box a few weeks ago, an early-Genesis tribute band, and there were about 1000 clones of me: balding 50-ish bearded paunchy males in leather jackets and tennis shoes.

Female, love 'em and have since 1984.

The biggest sausage-fest I ever saw was a King Crimson concert. By comparison, the UFC (Ultimate Fighting Championship, which is mixed martial arts fighting) events I’ve been to had tons of women in attendance. The King Crimson show? The only female I saw was the girl behind the counter selling shirts.

That was the first prog-rock show I ever saw live, and it will certainly be the last. If there’s no chicks in the audience, I’ll take a pass, thanks.

Male, 46 yo, no huge fan of Rush.

In my youth, you were either for Rush or for Yes, and Yes had me. I really thought Rush’s early work was prog at the expense of being listenable, whereas Yes had prog and hooks. The later Rush stuff (maybe mid-80’s on) was more tolerable and I found myself liking some of their stuff. I really don’t listen to the radio now, so I don’t hear Rush at all and don’t miss them.

Woman, and I love them. Actually got into them when my brother didn’t like a Rush album given to him (Power Windows) and he passed it on to me.

Love them. Male. At least they aren’t singing love songs all the time. Do they even have one? Can’t think of one. Yes Mr. McCartney, we are tired of silly love songs.
