I’ve noticed it on my way to work - I generally leave the house about 5:20 or so. For a while there, it was definitely light when I left. Now it’s light as I get to work around 6. Before long, it’ll still be dark when I get to the office.
I love the cool but I miss the light. * <insert deep sad sight here…>*
Yes, the changes are getting more obvious. Sunrise is earlier, sunset is later and the days are getting longer. The wattle is out and you can smell spring in the air.
Nope. We’re right in the middle of the hottest part of the summer here in Texas. We’ve finally got out from under something like 10-15 straight days of 100+ degree heat with no rain.
It generally is pretty godawful hot and sunny until about mid-September.
Sunlight? Oh yes, I remember that, that’s that warm bright stuff that you can dry your laundry in and that you have when it doesn’t rain ALL FUCKING SUMMER.
Heading into spring. Early blossoms and spring bulbs are out, though mornings seems colder than ever - a frost this morning that was still in the shadows at 9.30am.
I notice it more in the afternoons as the sun lowers and glare makes both crafts and computer work impossible without drawing the curtains.
Still, a glorious late winter’s day here, brilliant sunshine and a light crisp breeze that’s going to make my afternoon walk a spiritual event.
For the last two mornings we’ve had low temps of 65 degrees. A very strange thing this time of year in south Georgia. Not that I’m complaining. I’ve loved going out on my back porch with a cup of coffee and just taking in the relative coolness. Of course by two p.m. it’s mid to upper 90s and humid.
I’ve been planning the Labor Day weekend pool party. I can’t believe it’ll be Labor Day in three weeks! That’s always the sort of “official” end of pool season even though I can enjoy the pool all September and even into October some years.
In Michigan you can see if you watched the PGA golf tourney. It was cold and windy all weekend. They asked the winner before he went out if he had an advantage because he comes from Ireland. He said I am used to wind and rain .but I don’t like it.
Here in Illinois, summer isn’t over until the end of September, so there is still plenty of time to pull stuff out of the garden and to go swimming. We have had an unusual cool front here, though, so I am getting the feeling of Fall coming on and ooh, I like it. I just like cool, sunny, pleasant weather. Swunnerful.
The light IS different. I notice its effect upon the ocean-in high summer, the water looks clear and greenish. As we head toward fall, it looks a darker blue. Yep, its coming!
