Maybe (they never caught the guy, but he was driving erratically enough to hit a guy walking on the sidewalk. It was on a weekend night, so it’s a decent bet he was drunk, as opposed to just an awful driver or distracted in some other way - also this was probably in 2000, before cell phones became completely ubiquitous, although they still were around. So I can’t say for sure that the driver was drunk, but it seems to be the most likely possibility.)

A few years before I met my ex-husband, his uncle, aunt and their three young kids were all killed by a drunk driver. I obviously never met them, but still felt the impact on the family that was left.
