I voted “Other” - I doubt it’s deliberate, but it is fucking clueless. Especially after all the effort parents nowadays go to, teaching our kids that “No means no” and bodily autonomy. Counterproductive at the least.

This is my position, assuming the scene is being described accurately. I doubt I’ll ever see this movie.

Dang, I let my kid watch Tom & Jerry with my Dad when we go over, I’ll expect him to start running through walls leaving a toddler shaped hole and smashing people in the face with frying pans so hard that the face leaves an impression on the pan.

That’s the difference. This is molestation. Even if the humans are doing it unknowingly, they are molesting a sapient creature. The music makes it quite clear this is the intent. And that is being played for laughs. Actual psychologists are noting how this is a bad thing

That’s just not a good message to be sending kids. Do you think that Tom and Jerry would have Tom fiddling Jerry’s bits? Maybe Jerry come in and biting Tom’s penis? Wouldn’t that instantly seem like adult content, at best?

Molestation is a real thing. Playing it for laughs is inappropriate in kids movies.

I’d have to see the clip to know for sure. My question is: Is this a movie for 5yo’s? Or is it a movie for young teens?

Because when you are a young teenaged boy, “dick” jokes are funny.

At any rate, it’s an absurd notion that the producers of this movie were “grooming” children. It may very well be inappropriate, but it isn’t grooming.

I showed dogs for many years, and the males are given a quick check to make sure both testicles have descended. A monorchid is immediately disqualified. And yes, they have to be trained to allow the touch. As a ‘dog person’ (who also has no kids) I wouldn’t have even thought twice about this.

I’m curious about this too; I have a conservative Christian alarmist cousin who shared this same thing yesterday. (This cousin sees hidden agendas in everything… Lady Gaga promotes the “gay agenda,” the movie *Me Before You * promoted the “pro-death agenda,” Hollywood is chock full of pedophiles, etc.) The way it’s presented in the post sounds absolutely horrible, but is it possible that it’s an adult-oriented joke that was presented in a thoughtless way?

I’m going to raise my hand here and object to one item in the poll. If the issue is pedophilia, why is attention directed only at NAMBLA? This perpetuates the notion that pedophilia is directed mostly by men at boys, which is not true. I suppose this is the only organization (that I know of anyway) that publicly attempts to justify this particular behavior. The poll choice could have been written in any number of cutesy ways without this reference.

You did land on the reason for my choice. Also to be considered: I perceived a need to compose the list of responses in a short period of time, and that’s the one that popped into my head.
