We have zero debt, which bumps things up quite a bit. That includes both vehicles and the house, the combined worth of which is about $600K in today’s market.
When I do “money” polls I usually include ranges like:
Under 0
0-1000
1000-2500
2500-5,000
5,000-10,000
10,000-25,000
…
So each range is approximately a power of 2, but in “round” numbers.
If you want “money” numbers, use a different multiple than 2.
You can do multiples of 10 really easily (each bucket is 9 times as big as the previous):
0-10
10-100
100-1000
If you want more graduations, use a number close the the nth root of 10 and round to the nearest convenient number. Like, if you want to split each factor of 10 into 6 buckets, use the 6th root of ten.
Probably just use the cube root. Three buckets per factor of ten works out very close to 2,5,10. 5 isn’t exactly twice 2, but it’s close enough and it leaves you with very “round” numbers that people are used to because fingers.
10-20
20-50
50-100
100-200
200-500
etc.
Money comes in 1,2,5,10,20,50, etc. because it’s more convenient to have more graduations between each factor of ten, and we five-fingered monkeys like working with factors of 2 and 5.
Who will all argue they’re not well off because they work, too, going by past threads…
We now have 3 people claiming >$50M. I suspect some or all of these are being smartasses especially since there’s such a gap to the next lower range that anyone chose.
Until about 52 responses, the “$0 or less” choice was ~47% of respondents, now at 89 votes it’s 8%.
That’s not possible mathematically: 47% of 52 is over 24 votes, and 8% of 89 is only a bit over 7 votes. I can’t change my vote, so unless others somehow can…
It was 40-something around late 40s responses. 47 @ 52 responses stuck in my head, and it was something like that.
Interestingly I can change my vote. I just switched it then switch it back. Hmm.
Well now, look at that, I did too. That’s a different kind of feature.
Yeah, not liking the vote changing, not a fan.
I still can’t change my vote, though there have been others that allowed me to.
That’s strange… You tried clicking on the “Show vote” button under the poll?
I ain’t got diddly-squat, and it’s unlikely to ever improve for me. The most money I have ever had at any one time would likely be laughably sad to most of you. It’s always been a struggle; even when things go right, it so easily goes wrong and spirals into disaster again, right back to square one. I’m just one of life’s failures, I guess.
About 25 to 30 dollars once repaired and in good shape-40 to 50 dollars during fishing season.
Yes, I can change my vote too when I press “show vote”. Does not feel right.
All of my wealth is in cash and shares, no mortgage, no house, no 401.k in Europe, almost no pension savings (they say I have, but I don’t really trust them. The law and our collective agreements forced me to sing up, but whatever: it does not change the bracket I selected anyway). Always lived in rented appartments since I left my parent’s house. I can double the value of my car by filling it up.
Frankly, I don’t know why I still work and what to do with all the money. But my wife is probably right when she says that if I quit working I will go down the drain and drink, eat, smoke and sloth myself to death. And I used to like my job before Covid made it a pain in the ass.
No, but it also doesn’t feel right to me that a light tap on one choice voted, without any “are you sure this is what you want to say” dialogue. So if people are using it to say, “shit, I didn’t mean to click that, I was just trying to move my pointer to the right spot, I will fix it right now” that’s a good thing.
ETA: I just tested, and hey look, I can change my vote, too. I changed it, then changed it right back.
Hey, I WORKED for this $100M, okay? Its rude for you to doubt that.
This sounds like a job for a series of Preferred Numbers!
I suspect that’s just another side effect of the general [Discourse = edit forever, SDMB = edit briefly] thing. When TPTB tweaked the setting for edit time limit, they probably just missed the separate setting for vote time limit. If there is such a thing.
Or skews towards people lying on the poll. These things are fun but I’m not convinced people answer them honestly.
I answered honestly but I made a mistake. I just inherited half of my mom’s house and I forgot to throw that home equity in. I was on the high end of the range I selected and this would’ve put me into the bottom end of the next range.
ETA: I just read the post above mine, I think I can change my answer,
