Poll: What percentage of this board has smoked pot... ever

Well, we have something in common.
I am also 35 years old and have been a friend of the hookah (did I spell that right?) for 20 years straight now.

don’t think it *helped…

Must be the after effects…

I tried it a couple of times, without success. There must be a knack to it. FWIW, I went to college in the '80s. It was certainly common enough. “Baking” it was called then.

Yes, but not in like five years. The last time I smoked, I got really nauseated and thought I was going to throw up.

I was in high-school in the mid/late 70s and it seemed like everyone in school was smoking, except for maybe the Chess club and the Bible club. You could get a contact high from walking into the girl’s room. All the teachers knew about it, and kinda winked and smiled. But I was the odd man (well, girl) out, because I didn’t smoke. In fact, one day, a friend took me to her house during lunch time, for the sole purpose of getting me stoned! Only to find out that her mom had found her stash and threw it away or something. So all through high school, I didn’t smoke. Tried it for the first time when I was 19, and partying at my sister’s apartment. Between that time, and the last time I smoked (about 10 years ago, at the ripe old age of 34), I smoked maybe a dozen times. I enjoyed it, but not enough to make a habit of it.

One lasting side-effect: I still have a hard time listening to Gordon Lightfoot singing The Wreck of the Edmond Fitzgerald, because I was stoned once when I heard that song, and I swear to you it lasted for about three damned hours!

Aaaacccckkk! The above post is from me, not my teenage daughter!!

Of course.

Head, leaf, bud, hash, oil, resin, blah, blah…

And I’m just an average person. Not particularly into it. I’d just assumed that, the odd God freak aside, EVERYBODY has smoked pot.

I think the motto of the 80s was: “Just Say Snow.”

Another 35 year old who’s been smoking pot for 20 years checking in. Got high last night, will get high again tonight.

Good thing you were stoned. It usually seems like it lasts three DAYS!

Used to smoke quite a bit. Summers during high school ('81-'85) and college ('85-'89) I smoked just about every day, but never during the school year for some reason. I never sought it out but often found myself around it, and would take a toke when it was passed to me.

One of the last times I smoked was at a party at my house in maybe '93. I had a healthy buzz going on from booze, took a shot of tequila and followed it up with a toke. About 5 minutes later everything was spinning and I spent the next hour kneeling in front of the toilet, but didn’t actually get sick. I don’t know if it was the tequila/weed combination, but it hit me pretty hard. Smoked a couple times in the year or two after that, but I guess I just never found myself around it again.

Occasionally while walking down a city street I’ll find myself passing through a sweet-smelling cloud, and inhale deeply and smile at the memory.

Another no here. I’ve also never smoked a cigarette.

I’m not a “God freak” either. Just boring, I guess.

Yep, in high school and college ('70’s and '80’s). I grew out of it.

Yep, as a teen in the 80s. I never cared for it much either. I think it may have contributed to my starting to smoke cigarettes also. (The joint would be gone, and everyone else would take out their cigs and go on smoking. I was bored.)

I don’t do either anymore, but I am also surprised at how many people are saying no.

I’ve smoked pot comparatively rarely, maybe fewer than ten or fifteen times. I still remember the first time, which was also the first time I came out to someone my age, back when I was fifteen. Most of the times I smoked up were between then and the time I was nineteen or so. I think my parents knew about it, but their entire reaction was for my dad to mention in passing about the times that he smoked up.

By then I was in university and living by myself, and doing a lot of medical research to support myself, so I couldn’t smoke up for a really long time because you had to not have smoked up for three months before doing a study and I could never tell when I would need a study.

After that I kind of lost the taste and the people I hung out with stopped smoking it as much, so I haven’t been. Also it doesn’t seem to affect me as much or as entertainingly as it used to. I would still share a joint if one was being passed around, but the situation hasn’t arisen in ages. The most recent time was when a Portuguese friend of mine shared some hash with me at a festival we were at while I was in Lisbon.

I’ve never done any other drug, nor do I smoke tobacco or drink alcohol (I’ve had fewer alcoholic drinks in my life than joints.)

When I think about it, it seems so incredibly arbitrary that this is considered a major drug. You might as well outlaw coffee or St. John’s wort for all the effect it has. My party is in favour of decriminalization, which is why I’m able to share this with you

Never smoked pot. I’m 28. Goodness knows it was widely available at my high school, and it seemed like everyone else was doing it, but a) I’m one of those God freaks, and b) it smells vile. Worse than tobacco by far, and I’ve never smoked that because I don’t like the smell.

Actually, my husband hasn’t either, although he’s been many times in the room while pot was being smoked, and one time his brother hotboxed the whole house for a party.

Not me. I was at college in the late 70s, and was only offered it once. No doubt it was readily available to anyone who was looking for it.

I guess I prefer my reality undiluted.

Not me. I’ve been offered plenty of times, but

(1) I didn’t want to cause any complications in getting a security clearance, (yes I know it’s not impossible–but it’s much easier to just say “no I haven’t done any drugs”)
(2) stuff in lungs = bad
(3) didn’t want to get hooked and then gain 100 pounds from munchies.

Oh yeah. Didn’t like it much when I tried it in high school. In college many friends would smoke before class or all day, but I found I just couldn’t focus enough to get anything done, so I only did it at parties or when we went camping. Once I was in my mid 20’s I realized I much prefered being high to being drunk. Now at 35 I still enjoy alcohol, but not to get drunk. These days it nice to take a hit or two and do house work or walk the dog or go for thai food, yum.

I took my first toke at Woodstock, in 1969. I smoked occasionaly at parties in college and after, but probably only bought it myself once or twice. I was never all that fond of the effects, and I dislike smoking in general. I haven’t used it in probably 20 years. I might partake socially if it were legal, but I don’t know anyone who uses it these days (or if they do, they don’t tell me about it).
