A lot between 16 and 20. First time on a rocky shore in Corsica while fishing out sea urchins and eating them on the spot (first experience of munchies) . Mostly after a summer camp in Morroco during which mostly everybody was stoned most of the time (and we were naive enough to believe the “adults” weren’t noticing anything), smoking hash amongst ourselves, kif when we were with locals. My mother latter found and threw away my nice kif pipes
I smoked several times a week, dayly at times and enjoyed it a lot. I too have a song completely associated with pot : “shine on your crazy diamonds”. Actually, I never liked grass, and rarely smoked it. I liked oil but it was difficult to find, so I usually smoked hash. I became a renowned expert in rolling neat and aesthetically perfect joints.
One day, I got a panic attack after having smoked (this happens to some people). It happened that this hash was mixed with opium, but I doubt it was the cause, since I don’t think opium can have such an effect. Next time, same stuff, same result. After that I wasn’t too enthralled at the prospect of trying again, so I quitted (I probably smoked a couple joints during the following year) . Since I was the main consummer, buyer and provider, most of my friends quitted as well by lack of opportunity.
Since then, I didn’t smoke more than a polite puff when a joint was passing around, which happened more and more rarely as time passed.
That would have been during the 80s’.
I experiemnted a few thousand times.
Yea, I did. Haven’t recently though, maybe in the past few months I’ve smoked three or four bowls - I don’t like the high that much.
Never. Let this be on the record when I run for public office. I’m also not against it. People should be able to do it if they wish and it should be mildly taboo to do it in public, but in the long run, it’s no more dangerous than smoking or drinking, and they’re permitted.
I never have, and haven’t smoked regular cigarettes either.
Prescription drugs, caffeine and alcohol yes, but I’ve cut back on drinking too much because it makes me depressed.
Dio, you stole my line!
Since 1973. I like it better than any other substance, and stopped using any other kinds decades ago. I was a musician in the '70s. You can imagine what it must have been like. I never took any hard drugs, though.
“I hate to advocate drugs, alcohol, violence, or insanity to anyone, but they’ve always worked for me.”
Hunter S. Thompson
Uh, ditto.
I sometimes think I’m the only person who went to college in the late 60s/early 70s who did not try pot (or anything besides alcohol).
On the other hand, I really wish that they would decriminalize it since I doubt that it was that harmful and I think we’d be better off taxing it than blowing money trying to prevent it.
Yeah, I used to smoke up quite a bit in high school. Early on, it gave me the giggles and put me in a generally happy mood. Once I hit my 20’s, though, I had to stop. The stuff started putting me right to sleep. Not much fun being at a party and having to hit the sack 20 minutes after the bowl gets passed around.
Quite a bit from 16-20. Nothing for years and years.
I miss it. If I weren’t so terribly paranoid about ME being the soccer mom they send to jail as an example for all other soccer moms out there, I might try it again upon occasion.
I really don’t like drinking all that much (glass of wine with dinner is about my speed). If it were legal, I’d probably “get high” about once a month or maybe just on my birthday or something.
<sigh>
It’s odd to me that there is any stigma at all to pot smoking. If I was into it, I’d do it every day, unfortunately I never much liked that kind of buzz. I don’t think legality would play into it for me at all.
Never smoked pot. Never got high. Never got drunk. Never put water into my own fuel tank. Both me and my car always fire on all cylinders, and we prefer it that way. YMMV.
Never smoked pot. Never will, either- I’m allergic to pot smoke. I don’t even know what it smells like, because my nose stuffs up and starts doing its impression of Niagara Falls immediately on contact with pot smoke. Just like it does with cigarette smoke, only worse- I at least know what cigarette smoke smells like.
I still think pot should be legal, but subject to the same kind of restrictions that cigarette smoking is. I think it’s idiotic to have laws to protect people from themselves.
Smoked it three or four times 1977 because my best friend wanted to. All it did was make me scared that we’d be caught. Unfun times, man, unfun times.
Not once. Never even seen any.
Not just because I’m asthmatic. In highschool I was so square, well, the popular guys would probably have laughed in my face if I’d have asked to buy some. They likely would have thought I was part of some kind of sting to get them in trouble… never mind getting invited to parties.
That was a long time ago. Age has taught me to be less judgemental today.
I smoked it once or twice a week for several months, then gave it up. It was fun, in a way, but I saw no need to continue with it.
So you’re the one!
Back then we heard rumors about some college student who refused a joint, but most of us thought it was an urban myth.
Someone put German beer in your Heineken bottle?
Heineken is from Holland, sweetie.
Not me, ever.
Never tried it, and I’m 27. I was a good boy; I didn’t drink until I turned 21 either. During my years in the Marines it was far too risky. We had urinalysis tests all the time and a few people from my company popped positive. I’d have no real problem with legalization; I’d probably give it a try. But why risk it when I can drink legally?
