POLL: Where do you want to go?

That is pretty much the decision I came made when I was doing this at work. People would name someplace I would go think it sounds like fun, I want to go there.

Well, there goes my next question.

Sounds like lots of fun. Just what I needed somewhere else to add to my list.

While I am not an expert on shopping, I have to admit that the portions didn’t seem that different from what I received while I was Down Under. As for the accent… sigh, That is why I want to go back.

For everyone that added a new place on the voting booth, I have made the names and your votes visible.

Either the Himalaya or the Karakoram. Surpirsed I’m the first to mention 'em, BTW.

New York City is my goal.

I’d have to say the Caribbean. I don’t know enough about the different islands to tell you which one. Any of them that serve marguaritas would be fine, I’d guess.

I added Romania, as besides the beautiful countryside, I’ve always had an admittidly morbid fascination of vampires and would love to see Count Vlad’s castle.

Sadly, I believe that the tourist demand for tours of it waned and the government ceased caring for the castle and it has fallen into disrepair.

Although, the disrepair might do that much more for a tour of the place

Istanbul (not Constanstinople)

OK - who can name the group that sang a song by that name?

  1. a little town 30 miles south of Albany, NY
  2. Talladega, AL

Why? They’re the locations of racinchikki and a NASCAR race, respectively.

I made all of the new listings visible. But whoever voted for outer space, I deleted it. The question was the places in the world. Opening it up to outer space and other planets is a different question.

The Four Freshman, followed many years later by They Might Be Giants. The TMBG version rocks! Have you seen the Tiny Toons video for it?

I enjoyed Istanbul, especially the cisterns and the Spice Bazaar (before the fire).

As for me, I’ve always wanted to go to Iceland, but as I don’t know why, I haven’t gotten around to going. I’d like to see more of Germany and Hungary (well, actually, I haven’t seen any of either country yet), and I wish I had the option of going to Italy just for the food.

I’ve always wanted to take a road trip to California.

I think you missed something. It has to be a place you have never been. Or are you saying you have never been to Amsterdam despite living in Holland?

Ooops, I sure did misunderstand.

In that case I vote for Africa, probably Ethiopia.

Have any of you been to Nigeria? A friend of mine wants me to go there with him but I’m not really sure about it.

Someone else had already voted for French Polynesia, but I got more specific and added Tahiti. My screen saver is a beach scene from Moorea and I have the weather forecast for Papeete on my desk top. Funny thing is that it hardly ever changes: Sunny and 80 degrees. I’m there.

I know I’m a freak, but I’ll post my two here. If only my wife would read it and realize I’m quite serious.

  1. The Citadel in Haiti - I have been to Haiti a couple of times and one could not hope for a more bewilderingly foreign experience. Stayed in a rural village during carnival season. The Vaudou drums almost shook the bed as I slept. The Citadel is one of the great miracles of human endeavor. Built on a mountain by 30,000 slaves of the emperor Henri Christophe it snakes impossibly along the crest of a majestic mountain.

  2. Baku, Azerbaijan - Used to be one of the great nouveau riche destinations at the turn of the century and is now a wild west mix of gun runners, playboys and poverty. A culturally fascinating place.

Like I said I’m a freak.

London.

Whereabouts in Kentucky are you? I live just outside of Louisville.

I’d have to agree with that. That’s been the one place I’ve always wanted to go.

Wanna trade places? I’ve got some friends in Boston I’d love to visit.

I have. Was stationed in Christchurch, NZ at the time (Navy). My chief asks me if I want to go to the ice for 30 days. I said sure. So off I go to McMurdo Station for a month.

Weird to have it light all the time. Got to crawl around in an ice cave, touched a seal, visited a 1910 expedition hut. Once in a lifetime trip. Also got a medal out of it.

Not LA?? snif :frowning:

Well, I still would like to visit Pittsburgh, and Tampa/Lakeland.

That’s actually with a mind to visiting (and meeting) certain of my friends (on this board as a matter of fact). But then, these friends are as important to me as seeing the sights.

Aside from that, I’d say England, and probably London in particular (even if Medea’s Child isn’t there). This because I’m a big English History buff.

Unfortunately I’ve seen a DAMN good piece of this world, so to choose a place I’ve never been? A South Pacific island that is now like Bali was twenty years ago. But not by myself.
