How much trouble would it be to split the hibernation period into two parts? One for the hottest part of summer and the other for the coldest of winter?
I could see me being interested in that option. Otherwise, no.

Would there be benefits to hibernating? For instance, would you live an extra 33% longer than say the average person who does not hibernate? How would this affect pregnancy cycles?
For myself, I would say no, simply due to the limitations and potential risks it brings.
I think the OP is suggesting the total lifetime number of wakeful hours would remain the same - hibernation consisting of compressing the whole year’s sleep into one solid block.
Still wouldn’t do it. My yearly sleep ration is only a little over two months, but there are not any two months of the year that I would wish to miss entirely.
Heck no! Would be too scared to never wake up.
And miss out on all the cool winter fashion? Fuck no!
I would absolutely hibernate. As far as my job goes-- I still get a full year’s worth of vacation time, don’t I?
No thanks. Sleep divides up the days. If I were awake 24/7 I’d just feel pressured to be productive all the time.
Hell yeah! With the name hibernoids, we’d be the coolest, subterranean, styling, subculture ever!! We’d be like superheroes who emerge from the depth of sleep to save the world.
I suggest a distinctive look. Let’s all wear black. Maybe we’d be called out of hibernation when needed, say, if there is a labour shortage, a financial crisis, or an enviromental disaster.
Word.
No, I don’t think so. And I say that as a sleep lover. Boy do I love my sleep. I love it so much in fact, that I want to do it every day. I would really really miss not being able to sleep for 8 months.
Maybe, if only because the first few days after you wake up would be awesome. I’d really enjoy getting caught up on 4 months of current events all at once.
Miss out on -2-4 months of my life, contiguously, every year? Don’t think so…and I like sleeping, but I already don’t like missing those 8 hours.
I don’t really enjoy sleeping, but I like the fact that the need for sleep gives me an excuse to just lay down and not do anything for a few hours.
If everyone was awake 24/7, I’d never be able to relax.
Yes. I hate hate HATE winter, and sleeping through it looks like a good idea.
Skipping the months where it gets dark super early does sound mighty tempting, but I think I enjoy going to and waking up from sleep too much to miss out on such a thing.
