Let’s assume they find a way to freeze bodies and then unfreeze them so you can hibernate for long periods of time - safely. While you are “frozen”, it is just like a nice night’s sleep. When unfrozen, you are back to your current 100% fully awake self.
Here are the three packages you can order:
Bronze Package - they will wake you once every year (you pick the date) for one day (a full 24 hours where you won’t need to sleep), and you are treated to a luxury package in luxury resort (on the beach or near the mountains) and are given a quick history lesson of what has happened over the year, get the list of films/TV shows/music of the year and watch/listen to what you want, and eat and drink whatever you like and have make any calls or meet anyone you wish (assuming anyone you know is still alive).
Silver Package - they will wake you every 10 years and you can travel, first-class, anywhere you want for 10 days - along with the history lesson and technological lessons and access to shows/concerts/movies/Broadway or whatever is big at that time. Obviously you could meet up with grandkids and other family if you wished.
Gold Package - they will wake you once every 100 years! You get three full months to travel in luxury, get all of the benefits from the packages above and can also take advantage of any medical breakthroughs and try out the technological toys. Of course, nobody knows how much things will change with 100 year leaps.
Would you take advantage of this program?
Which of the three packages would you select?
That actually sounds terrible. I can’t imagine losing at year of my life whilst my wife and children have to live without me. I love spending time with them, so I’ll pass on the offer, thanks.
I don’t see any advantage to this, unless you include the caveat that the body/mind does not age during the frozen periods. Even then, it doesn’t sound like something that would interest me. Not sure I’d want to live my +/- 25,000 days spread over 25,000 years.
Bronze if I have to take one. I have no faith in these companies, and I might never wake up again if I take the 10 year or 100 year option. Also, the future is a dark and terrible place. I don’t want to see it that far ahead.
As much as I’d want to live indefinitely and see what the distant future will have in store, there are too many people in my life I’d not want to miss out on.
Otherwise, if I were alone with not much of a life, I’d choose the Gold package.
(ETA: Reminds me of Heinlein’s story A Door Into Summer)
