Poll: Would you pour ice watercover your head for charity?

I’m sure you’ve seen the videos of people dumping ice, water over their head, in an effort to raise $/awareness of ALS.

Would you do it?

People do this? Like it’s supposed to be sort of manly/heroic/self-sacrificing thing? It sounds like the tamest thing someone could dream up.

Heck, on New Years Day we go swimming in Lake Michigan. Temperatures are usually in the teens. Many times you have to wade through floating blocks of ice. And we do this for fun. I’m not sure pouring ice water over your head really accomplishes anything. Just put a donation for ALS on your credit card.

I’d do it, but I fail to see the connection or justification wrt ALS.

I’ve jumped into a dumpster filled with ice water a few times, which is no doubt worse.

I’d do it. Hell, here in Tucson this time of year, you don’t need a reason to pour ice water over your head.

It’s a Boston thing, at least for now.

Ice water over the head isn’t that big of a deal. I’d do it and offer to match whatever other people contributed.

First of all, I will assume that the donors will find a way to give a target amount of money to charity, whether I humiliate myself or not.

Second, I am outraged that in a fabulously wealthy and wasteful society, that silly pranks (or even sober charity) are essential to or associated with the means of distribution of working assets to undisputed public or social good.
