Pollack-Explain the appeal.

I had heard good things about the movie “Pollock” by Ed Harris, so tonight I rented it and watched it.

Okay, first off I will say that I can find something to like about almost every movie and can often enjoy a movie for what it is. I like mainstream and independent films of many sorts.

I can appreciate the fact Harris did a lot of work on this and I feel that Pollok makes beautiful paintings (even though I didn’t get them). However, that aside, this has to be the dullest movie I have ever seen. I have watched, and like, a lot of slow moving films, but I was unable to find something in this to keep my intrest (and for me, this is pretty bad. I’m one of the ten people on the face of the earth who enjoyed My dinner with Andre).

I understand this is a character study, but it never seemed to go anywhere and it was hard to feel sympathy for the guy who seemed to have few to none redeeming character traits. Though I had to admit, Harris did an excellant job playing a complete and utter asshole.

Is it because I don’t get abstract art (I think it’s beautiful, but I can’t find any meaning in it) or that I don’t know too much about art in general? Or did I just not get it?
