"Pompatus" revisited: Steve Miller Speaks

Nothing really new, but here’s a quick video with Jimmy Fallon where he mentions it. Steve’s looking a lot like Jerry Springer these days. :open_mouth:

Steve Miller is a rocker I’ve loved for decades now. He was my first concert in 1994, his Greatest Hits was the first CD I owned, I pretty much wore out a live album cassette tape of his and I now own a few of his albums on vinyl.

Yet he is one rock star I would never be able to pick out in a crowd. I wouldn’t recognize him in pictures of his younger self and I sure was surprised to see what he looked like in that video clip. I have no idea how I could like a guy’s music so much and still have no clue what he looks like.

But yeah, there’s a bit of Springer in his face.

1:37 is the time mark for the “Pompatus” part.

I never thought about, but your right, I never would have picked him out in a line-up. I saw him in concert once in the mid-80s.

I heard a story once that back when he did regular tours, before the show he’d take a 10-speed bike and ride around the parking lot of the stadium, checking out the people tailgating and sometimes hanging out with them. He never got recognized.

And yet some people called him a space cowboy or the gangster of love. Or was it Maurice? :postal_horn: A chameleon of sorts!

Yeah, but will he be able to tell us what the “warm smell of colitas” is? Oh, wait, that was another group.

I always thought it was “Warren Snell of Colitas”, an employee at a local fireworks factory that exploded.

The Perfect Master can. And has.
