the Eddie Murphy movie “Boomerang.” You know, the one where Halle Berry is the undesirable one.
or Hope Floats, or 28 Days, or Practical Magic, or Forces of Nature, or Gun Shy…
This girl needs a new agent. I love her, but she’s gotta quit doing these awful movies.
Sorry for the hijack (why do people say that and then do it anyway?) – you said your eyes feel dry?
I had a cornea scraping last week (on purpose, done by a doctor :)) and the doc gave me some hints on eye care. Part of my problem was caused by dry eyes. Artificial tears didn’t help.
Doc said that there are 27 tiny glands on our eyelids, where our eyelashes are. The glands are supposed to secrete a fluid that works with tears to keep eyes moist. The secretion “thickens” tears, makes them work better.
Mine weren’t working. To get those glands working again, he said to put a hot compress (just a warm wet washcloth) over the eye for a few minutes, then squeeze your eyes shut really tight and hold them closed for a minute. (He likened it to squeezing a zit.)
It seems to work. You won’t see any pus-type stuff oozing out like happens with a zit, but it’s there.
As for the OP, I’m sure some of you have seen the makeover shows done by Ricki Lake, Oprah, Maury, etc. These are an absolute testament to the power of a good haircut.
Yes, we blink much less frequently when looking at a computer screen and contact lenses will feel dryer. Also in Airplanes where the air is dryer.
As for Sandra Bullock… I wouldn’t kick her out of my bed! Glasses or no glasses, who cares!
i have noticed some of that, “you look so good without your glasses when are you gona get contacts.”.
never mind that i can only get by without my glasses, and not read, or stare at computer screens so much.
I asked a few years ago and was told that i would need toric(sp?) contact lenses and that i could expect to pay like $300. i have to get new glasses soon and wiil ask when i have my eyes checked agian, i also want find out if i qualify for laser surgery.
And i am avrage too, tired of all the makeover movies, weary of the assumption that no one with glasses is cute or attractive, or in need of a significant other.
i do not wear a size 2, i look silly in hip huggers, i refuse to wear flares, and anything by tommy hilfiger.
you notice me when i wear a dress and my platforms, you notice when i have makeup on and my nails done, but i may as well be invisible without cosmetics.
my hair is always done when i leave the house, but i do not like my hair down so, STFU, stop telling me to wear it that way.
there is a reason why i do not have a closetful of dresses, and do not tell me that i will get over it. i dress like this to make my life easier, not to make others happy.
shut the fuck up about my hair colour, i do not care if blondes have more fun, i’d still be depressed anyway.
i do still want to colour my hair in shades of blue,PURPLE and turquoise and i don’t give one shit if you do not like it!
Thank you…
However, I’ve tried this. My eyes just dry out way too easily, no matter what I do. So I’m stuck with the glasses. Hey, I guess if I’m gonna be a professional nerd, I might as well look the part.
I love The Truth About Cats And Dogs.
I think Jeaneane Garofalo is much prettier than Uma Thurman most of the time in that movie. It’s that whole blonde & tall thing that makes us think she’s not pretty.
Uma Thurman (like Meg Ryan) needs to learn how to comb her hair.
Re: the whole “make-over” plot: There was even a Brady Bunch about this. Remember when Marcia made-over the ugly girl, just by taking off her glasses?
Other makeover moments:
- Clueless
- Ally Sheedy in The Breakfast Club
- Doris in Fame the TV show
- …? hmmm, more will come to me.
The funniest makeover moment in recent memory was one weekday when I was home early from work and indulged in Jenny Jones, who I can’t stand but hey, it was on.
So, anyways, she’s having her makeover show and the guests were mothers or sisters who were concerned that thier daughters/sisters dressed like whores. The girls, all between 12 and 16, came out, dressed like whores and it was the show’s mission to show them how to dress appropriately for thier age. They leave, they come back, cute and demure and still stylish.
And then we come to one girl. She comes in out in a cute outfit (of course) and Jenny says, “You know what would look good with your outfit? A pair of boots, don’t you think?” And she holds up a pair of boots the staff had caught the girl trying to steal. Jenny outed her on the stage, on the air and scolded her for stealing from someone who’s trying to help. She almost presses charges but decides against. Show goes on, girl looks foolish, audience goes nuts.
Let that be a lesson to you all. Even with a new outfit and great hair, a makeover will never change the real you.
I agree 110%.
Absolutely. Jeanean Garafolo is supposed to be unattractive because she’s short and not skin and bones. PUHLEEZE…give me strength. I happen to tink that JG is one of theloveliest girls I have ever seen.
And about Meg Ryan’s hair…I was just thinking that the other day. What is UP with that, anyway? It’s hard to believe that her hair looks THAT messed up naturally, because she has straight, thin hair. her hair looks like she puts it through a blender before she goes out. i like the kinda messy look that has become fashionable lately, but hers is not messy-hip, it’s just messy-messy.
She’s also a cold bitch, in case anyone cares. Ain’t that always the way, that screen sweethearts are evil in real life?
S
Am I the only one who thinks that either way (frumpy or done up), S. Bullock is goofy looking?
Jeanine Garrofalo pretty? Attractive? You gotta be kidding! I wouldn’t do her for $1000! (Well, I would, but you know what I mean.)
No, Mouthbreather, you’re not alone. Aside from not being attractive (in Hollywood terms anyway) she’s also a TERRIBLE actress. She doesn’t star in bad movies because she has a bad agent, it’s because she can’t act. As far as I can tell the only reason she’s still making movies is because she somehow was able to trick the moviegoing public into believing that she was leading lady material.
I like Sandra in Speed, she was spunky in that. I’ve never walked out of her films, but then again, I just wait for them to come on cable.
I don’t actively loathe her or anything but she doesn’t sparkle like other leading ladies/stars. She’s like, you know, cute and stuff but I think so many other actresses are cuter.
Yeah, well I doubt she’d do you for ANY amount of money!
What in gods name do you consider pretty? She is absolutely lovely.
Or are you one of those people that actually get behind the movies that are the topic of this thread, because you are not able to look beyond a person’s style to see what they are really like? Janeane is certainly no glamour-puss. But she’s very, very pretty. She just doesn’t expend any energy on emphasizing that fact, in fact, she tries to hide it. But it really isn’t hidable.
So I’m really curious…who do you consider pretty? Who do you consider good enough for you to “do”?
