For me, it’s the song Breakaway. Sure, its lyrics never get out of the “incredibly tired cliche” range, but that’s not Kelly’s fault. And she does what musicians are supposed to do: she sells me the song. Unlike 99% of the stuff I hear on the radio, I’m never sorry to hear it again. I certainly don’t think it belonged on VH1’s top 40 Awesomely Bad Songs of 2004 list (though I can understand why someone thought it did).
I’ll second this one. I’m starting to like Kelly Clarkson. She does a good job with the music. Her voice isn’t half bad. She hasn’t tried to “reinvent” herself yet.
I really like Toxic. One of my friends got really disappointed in me, and was saying, “I never would have pegged you as a Britney fan. It just goes to show…” I’m not a Britney fan, though, I just really really like that song. A couple months ago I heard a cover of it by Local H, and that was damn good too.
I feel especially bad, because I’m pretty sure it’s just a vehicle for some fiendish subliminal programing that’s going to turn me into a zombie slave, or something. :smack:
I think **Justin Timberlake’s ** got some chops. I’ve noticed **Amy Grant ** is actually a pretty sophisticated songwriter (the wife’s a fan…and a confirmed atheist. Figure that one out). The Wiggles ** can craft a catchy tune. ** John Denver is criminally underrated as an artist. I think the kids’ show Arthur is funny on my own level. Yeah that’s right, I watch it *at work * and laugh at the antics of Arthur, Buster, Francine and Binky.
