Hello,
my uncle used to sing a version of pop goes the weasel which went like this:
A Scotsman a Jew and an Irishman
In search of recreation Took enough provisions along
to spent a nice vacation They got lost out in the woods,
It was dark and lonely Suddenly the food ran out, except a piece of bologna
The Scotsman said, I have a knife, But there’s no use in carving, For if we did
there isn’t enough, to keep us all from staving, I suggest we all go to bed
(There may be something missing here?)
And he who has the nicest dream, He gets the bologna.
The next morning they all awoke, At quarter after seven.
The Scotsman said, I had a dream, I died and went to heaven.
I rode through those beautiful gates, Riding on a pony
You can’t beat a dream like that, So I get the bologna.
Abel said I had a dream, I died from overeating, I went up to heaven myself,
And I got quite a greeting, Old St. Peter smiling said, How are you this morning?
You can’t beat a dream like that, So I get the bologna.
The Irishman said…???
And this is where I can’t remember
I know he dreams the others are dead and eats the bologna, but I don’t remember the right words. Hopefully I got the first part right.
Can you help?
This is probably from the 20’s-40’s?
Kindest Regards,
Jane
