Pope Francis totally fucking rocks!

He was just looking for a gneiss time.

I am one of those liberals who has really liked this pope for his progressive (well, sort of) stances. But I was very disappointed he met and apparently encouraged that hag Kim Davis.

Ditto that.

Good News! He didn’t.

Vatican officials announced on Friday that Pope Francis did not hold a private meeting with Kim Davis last week in Washington — as has been widely reported — but that Ms. Davis was among dozens of guests ushered into the Vatican’s Embassy in Washington for a brief meeting with him. Francis was unaware of the specifics of the case of Ms. Davis, the Rowan County, Ky., clerk who has refused to grant a marriage license to a gay couple, despite a judge’s orders that she do so.

Nonetheless, someone said “we want examples of someone standing up” and came up with her, then told the boss “Holy Father, these are brave people who need to be blessed and encouraged” without stopping to consider the whole story or what the optics would be, and Francis was himself just too eager to bring up his position on “objection” to “immoral” laws. Whoever thought this up did him no favor.

By normal person standards, Pope Francis is somewhat less of a dick than his predecessors.

By Vatican standards, he’s a freaking radical.

In general I think he’s moving the Church in the right direction as fast as possible, but getting the Church to turn around is like trying to get an oil tanker to pop a wheelie.

And further, as the article continues, it does NOT amount to a Vatican endorsement of her views.

This IS his business. He’s out pimping himself, trying to sell the CC…what’s he gonna do, tell the kid to shog off? He probably didn’t even see the kid, until one of his entourage pointed him out, telling the Pope what a great Photo Op it would be. That is, unless the kid was brought there for just this purpose.

So the Pope didn’t really “meet” Kim Davis. Guess who he really did meet.

Spin. Counter Spin. What’s fascinating is that the Pope is having to play spin games with Kim Davis. She is the Sarah Palin of Catholic brand management.

Well, he definitely had the private meeting with the couple, simply because one of them was a student and long-time correspondent. Releasing the story may well be spin but given that Francis hasn’t repudiated him it’s certainly a sign that he doesn’t have a big problem with homosexuals.

There is some speculation(and I don’t know how substantiated this is) that Apostolic Nuncio Carlo Maria Viganò, who does have a big problem with homosexuals, was behind getting Davis into the same room as the Pope. Church politics being what it is, we may never know whether this is true or whether Viganò is being thrown under a bus or if it’s something else, but there you go.

It can be both – when someone needs throwing under the bus, who better than someone involved in getting you into that mess to begin with.

Archbishop Vigano may be “asked to resign” soon, which would seem to settle the Pope’s actual opinion on this issue.
