Sure, and if Immaculate Conception worked it would be reduced even further. If God just healed the sick rather than we poor humans having to rely on things like blood transfusions it would be reduced even more.
See, you would be right if he was some unknow, who we had never heard of. However, he is not. I daresay, the inqusition was a bad thing, and he is the spiritual, and legal inheritor of the title, Congregatio pro Doctrina Fidei. In adition, he has shown his colors, via public defending of an anti-everything good stance. google his name, and any hot-topic (women’s rights, gay rights, etc.) and you will see. I’m all for responsibility and caution, but I see nothing morally wrong with the use of a small piece of latex, nor with having sex for pleasure.
We can’t let the prevention of human suffering get in the way of imposing self-righteous sexual morality on others,
The Church might have more credibility on sexual issues if more of the clergy would actually take their dicks out of their altar boys.
Binarydrone’s my new hero.
Yes, how would you live if you couldn’t massage your prostate by having your head up your ass, you self righteous asshole?
This train of thought, pissed me off no ends, AIDS is also being transferred via blood by products. Which means Mr. Smith gets a transfusion, follows strict Catholic sexual teachings and will still kill his wife.
You tell me what solution you have to prevent that? Until the Africa and Asia gets their blood banks under modern conditions, AIDS will still ravage those countries regardless of strict Catholic teachings…it doesn’t care whether you’re living in sin or have been married for 40 years…
Perhaps the Church wouldn’t get stones tossed at it, if you guys would stop seeing every tragedy as the result of sin.
And yet, when the pope makes a pronouncement that people beyond his flock might agree with on the death penalty, or economics, or social justice, this accusation of arrogance and overreaching never is made.
Funny thing, that.
Gee, the Western liberals think it’s a bad idea for Catholic Cardinals to elect as leader of their church someone who thinks Catholic doctrine is correct.
That’s the beauty of freedom of religion, guys…you don’t like what Catholicism says, be something other than a Catholic. Don’t waste time wishing Catholicism was or will be different.
Give it a rest.
There was an interesting theory that was posited last night by a friend of mine – the Cardinals haven’t really found a pope yet. Maybe they’re still looking, and elected Ratzinger as a placeholder. Ratzinger’s 78 years old; I’ll be surprised if he lasts more than a decade. Meanwhile, the Cardinals seek out a new pope for a longer time frame.
Nor do I, and I disagree with the Church’s proscription on condoms. But man, after all that’s gone down and around in the last 20 years if you get HIV you have no one to blame but yourself. What the Church has advocated would guarantee that you couldn’t get sick except in absurdly rare cases like a tainted blood transfusion. Yet it’s rejected as an irresponsible stance, when it is in fact the most responsible stance i can think of.
What you do is your business. But don’t blame me (or the Pope) because you can’t keep your pants zipped and you get sick. That’s all on you.
If no-one every had sex outside of marriage, it is possible STD would not exist. However, your viewpoint ignores reality. However, as DoctorJ has said,
from: We could eliminate cervical cancer, but then more people might screw!
Well, duh. He’s the most catholic of catholics, and last I looked, the catholic church still said that homosexuality is a sin, as is abortion, contraception was right out, and that women’s roles were pretty clearly defined and didn’t include the priesthood. People are surprised that a Pope who’s pretty firm on the stances of the Catholic church would be elected?
There’s a new pope and he’s conservative, you really expected that to be just left alone?
Haven’t you been reading? Again, it simply boils down to the fact that the Filthy Liberals™ hate God, and want to fuck all the time with no worries or consequences. To be sure, they are 100% not capable of any nuanced opinion in which they can adamantly disagree with a political figures position on some issues, and agree with him on others. No, I am afraid that the Filthy Liberals™ are 100% monolithic in their views.
You are a worthless piece of shit that defends the status quo of all types against even the most basic concepts of humanity or compassion.
Your remarks demonstrate your vile adherance to mindless doctrine, blind faith, and bigotry.
Disease is not a punishment.
Stupidity is your curse. Hopefully a curse that will skip a generation.
Speaking of crosses…
Why? Non-Catholics are perfectly free to agree with the Pope on some things and disagree on others just like we disagree with our dads, our spouses and our bosses on some things and agree on others. There is no hypocrisy in that because we don’t hold him out as God’s mouthpiece or invest him with any special wisdom or authority beyond whatever we subjectively feel like. The hypocrisy is on the side of those who want to sanctimoniously support the Pope as an authority when he espouses antiquated and stupid sexual mores as having some sort of inspired legitimacy but completely ignore him when he opposes the death penalty or tells you your warmongering is immoral.
24.5 million individuals are living with HIV in sub-Saharan Africa (71% of worldwide total).
· Every 25 seconds another person in Africa is infected with HIV.
· With HIV positive rates approaching and in some cases exceeding 20% in many of these countries, blood transfusions account for an ever-growing percentage of new HIV/AIDS cases.
· Of the estimated 6,000,000 blood transfusions performed each year in sub-Saharan Africa, as manyas half of them are not tested for all infectious diseases and another 1.5 million may be improperlyperformed.
· Less than 1/2 of African countries have adopted a national blood transfusion policy.
· Less than 1/3 of African countries have any policy to limit HIV infection through blood transfusion.
Rare? Not in Africa. Guarantee? Not in Africa. You wear your ignorance, like a badge of honour.
I wonder where he stands in re antidisestablishmentarianism.
