Even for those who get it by voluntary sex, it is hardly Christian or compassionate to say that they deserve to die a horrible death for not adhering to your backwards sexual morality.
Assume that HIV has never existed. Condom use would still be sinful, even for monogamous, married Catholic couples–how can Mr.Moto or Airman Doors defend the Chruch’s antagonism to ward a woman’s right to reproductive freedom? Is she obliged to serve as a vessel for her husband’s semen and be worn out through childbirth, and be doomed to poverty and an early death therefore?

Did I say that they deserved to die a horrible death? No. Did I say that they were responsible for it happening to them due to unsafe sex practices? Yep. Did I say that you cannot get an STD if you don’t have sex? Yep. Funny, I never said anything about sin or compassion or anything else.

Because he is married to a good and constant woman and, presumably, is in no danger of any of the other vectors for the HIV virus because he is right with God.
I have no problem with the teaching of abstention, but I think it’s irresponsible to promote it as the only way of preventing STDs and unwanted pregnacies.

I didn’t say, or even imply, that they deserved to die. All I’m saying is that not only does the Catholic Church have the right to set sexual rules for its members but those rules are moral ones if they encourage marital fidelity and reduce disease. Catholic sexual rules will do this if they are strictly observed - nobody really disputes this.
Nobody really thinks AIDS can be eliminated through sexual morality alone - that would be foolish. But I have to say that anybody that thinks it can be eliminated byt the willy-nilly passing-out of condoms is equally an idiot.

The spread of HIV in Africa through rape, blood transfusions and birth is the norm not the exception. Rape has become common because of a superstition that men can be cured of AIDS by having sex with a virgin. As a result there rape of children, sometimes even infants, has become pandemic.
And you know what? I live the same lifestyle as you do. I’m in an old fashioned hetero marriage and I’ve been monogomous for 15 years. Yet I’m STILL capable of feeling empathy for AIDS victims. I don’t think something has to be a threat to ME in order to be concerned about it. Imagine that. And I’m not even a Christian

Well, you’re aware that this is false, are you not? There are many ways you can get HIV without having sex so it’s not true that following Catholic sexual teachings automatically makes you safe.
