Can anyone recommend any “popular science” books on Human Physiology, Metabolism or similar? I don’t even know if such books exist.
What I mean by popular science is the kind of thing that Dawkins does in The Blind Watchmaker, or Hawking does in A Brief History of Time. Writing that makes concepts accessible to the (intelligent?) layman.
I find that these types of books make an introduction to a topic a lot easier that jumping right in and reading a (usually dry) textbook.
Thanks.
I’m guessing this belongs here and not in Cafe Society even though I am asking for book recomendations, because it is a non-fiction topic.
Maaany years ago, in fact as far back as the late 70’s or early 80’s, the BBC did a production called (IIRC) The Human Body which was presented by Jonathon Miller (again, IIRC…God, how I curse the onset of memory loss in my old age…) Millers approach to the discussion and study of the HB was ‘novel’, and far removed from your basic Anatomy and Physiology 101 type stuff.
Now, what were we talking about?..
That’s right, this production was brilliant and was made into a book (as all good BBC thingy’s are). Should be able to pick it up at one of the ABC Shops. I’m pretty sure I have seen it floating around in the last couple of years…
