How do the porn sites (some of them well established and major spammers) get away with doing porn versions of well known and copyrighted cartoon characters? A few years back (20?) Disney sued a school for using some of their cartoon characters in the school’s yearbook without permission and won. Yet I get the occasional spam showing any number of Disney heroines in any number of activities which I am certain that Uncle Walt would not OK (for obvious reasons no links will be provided).
One of the sites advertises in their spam how long they have been at that web address, so they are not all fly-by-night outfits.
Are they too hard to track down? Out of the country? Or what?
Either fair use (one could argue that cartoon porn is a parody of the cartoon characters they use), or it’s bootleg, and they either are too hard to arrest, or they do get arrested but it doesn’t make the news.
There are hundreds of websites devoted to toon porn, but there used to be thousands more that were hosted on free servers that would recieve cease and desist letters from lawyers representing Disney, 20th century Fox and others. The hosts would shut down the site and many now refuse to host toon porn. The sites that still exist go out of their way to evade the lawyers.
The highest-profile ones do get sued. Sometimes they fall off the face of the earth after Disney/Marvel/DC sic their lawyers on them, sometimes they change their name/URL and resurface later.
