I saw the site last night, and IMO you’re arguing the letter of the law, not the spirit. It looked for all intents and purposes like a porn site. The wording used things like “XXX” and other similar phrases to appear like exactly that. Do you seriously think that most bosses wouldn’t have a coronary upon seeing one of their workers looking at that? Or that it might not trip porn filters accidentally?
Yeah, it’s funny and all that, but I think it should at least have had a “probably not totally work-safe” warning.
I think Weirddave should have put a “may not be work safe” warning next to his link to be extra careful, but otherwise I don’t think the OP/link was that bad. He implied there were explicit images or at least fake explicit images, so anyone with a really strict work policy (like me) should be smart enough not to click on it.
Personally, if I were an admin, I would have just added a warning to the OP and admonished Weirddave to be more careful in the future. I thought TubaDiva’s warning was a bit too harsh.
Sure, it was a joke site, but even the urls carry the joke by using “XXXX” and “adult” in the title. That’s on the first page, not two clicks away. For some people, clicking into a such a site is a job-losing offense. That’s not funny at all.
It’s ignorant on your part not to understand this.
For all of you who think I’ve been harsh, it would have been harsh if I had banned him. I’d like to think that most of you have more consisderation of your fellow members here on this board. It’s too bad that Dave did not. That’s worthy of some comment, I think, at least so he doesn’t do it again. It is my hope that none of our members do anything here that puts other people at risk, especially in a time where jobs are so hard come by.
Oh, come on. It’s not as if the thread title wasn’t ‘Porn!’. Surely we can expect people in situations where the terms of internet use at work were as strict as that not to click a link in such a thread (I wouldn’t even click on the thread there). It seems the Pit standby “Have you never heard of personal responsibility?” applies to the SDMB too. Oh dear.
You mean like how people here post links like “Boobies!”, “Tits!” or “Pussy!” and the clicker sees a bird or a cat? With the two-click rule here, if it’s a long-time poster who’s posting the link, I typically don’t think twice about clicking if there’s no NSFW warning. Then again, I also was at home when I checked this out, so I’m not concerned for myself.
Just curious on the rule violation, but isn’t a thread titled “Porn” warning enough? If anyone at work clicked on a thread labeled “Porn” they were already violating any company policy in place.
That is one of the funniest damn sites I’ve EVER seen!!! WeirdDave for President!!!
Actually Bush will carry my state by at least 20%, so I may actually write you in.
