Post-election...

I’m putting this in Great Debates because I know this is going to turn into one.

Let’s say that Kerry gets elected President in November (by whatever margin floats your boat, it doesn’t matter.)

Based on his stated policies, as of right now, what will he enact as President?
(Apologies if this is too simplistic–being Canadian, I don’t know overmuch about U.S. politics. :))

Based on his stated policies:

‘Re-regulation’ of business.

Full public health care.

Mandatory public service for youth, in exchange for a free education.

Withdrawal from Iraq within 4 years.

Publically funded day care for all.

A repeal of the Bush tax cuts.

Expansion of numerous federal agencies.

Signing of the Kyoto Accord.

A new industrial policy, putting government in the position of picking and choosing ‘good’ technologies.

What he could actually accomplish with Republicans controlling the House and Senate:

None of it. Welcome to ‘gridlock’.

Which is preferable to the unlimited deficit spending and unfettered military adventurism we get when the Pubs control the White House and the Congress. I will take gridlock any day.

Besides, you know most of your “stated policies” are vastly exaggerated interpretations of Kerry’s positions. To wit: “Withdrawal from Iraq within 4 years” is not the same as “begin to withdraw troops in four years” which is what Kerry actually said. But the truth would get in the way of your simplistic Kerry bashing, so off with its head!
