Post five statements you truly believe but expect most of the board to disagree with.

Yes and I’m sure children who are ripped away from loving parents and given to strangers do the best of all!

I won’t even bother asking where all these adoptive couples are going to come from.

Well, if we’re not being trolled, we have the winner for the most original “I expect most of the Board to disagree with” entry.

Nice thing about MBH’s theory, though, is that this opinion is so universally un-held that it is not even worth debating him on it.

The topic of this thread was to post five statements you truly believe but expect most of the board to disagree with. I seem to have done a good job on this.

I am not going to proselytize about complementary therapy or even try to defend it. I appreciate intelligent discussion and skepticism and I don’t mind hearing that I’m a quack or a walking placebo effect, as long as my clients benefit.

I also always tell my clients to make sure that they have been checked out by a medical doctor. If I have strep throat, I don’t go on a shamanic dream journey, but I take antibiotics.

But if a doctor or psychotherapist has told you that there is nothing they can do (or that it is going to take years to get rid of you phobia or allergy), then I think it is much more useful to go see a complementary therapist than giving up.

End of transmission.

Jumping in the ice pond now…

  1. Minimum wage should not be increased, in fact it should eternally hover near $5.50-6.00. I believe it should be seen as an incentive to MERIT an increase or better oneself to move on from that employment- if the job pays min. wage, you’re not meant to stay in it forever and try to raise a family

  2. The death penalty being exacted should be the only reality tv.

  3. You know that saying about looking around the poker table, if you cant figure out who the sucker is, then its you? I believe that applies to all non white republicans.

4)Slut shaming is perpetrated by men who want to sleep with said women and women who wish they were the sluts

  1. If you cant speak the native tongue of your ancestors, you have no right to tell those that do that they need to learn to speak English because we’re in America.

Whatever pays your bills, my friend.

… “Bad girls do it well…”

I’m truly enjoying this thread. There are some things I agree, and some I strongly oppose, and many times they may come from the same Doper.

I do agree with the mention that some just start posting their beliefs thinking no one does, but really, a lot of people agree with those, and even many on this board, if not most. Or some variant of those beliefs.

  1. The decline in crime rate in the 80’s was caused by Roe v. Wade.
  2. The only republican president who wasn’t an obvious greedy corporate puppet asshole was Lincoln, but he hid it by camouflaging economic tomfoolery by yelling “FREE THE SLAVES” at the top of his lungs.
  3. Skald does not have too much time on his hands nor does he need to get laid.
  4. Overpopulation is a myth. We need more babies, all the time, pronto.
  5. The failure of the American public education system can be documented by the fact that there’s only two things people remember from elementary school: the Pledge of Allegiance and hand turkeys.

I would disagree with this statement based upon the fact that it is not exactly a secret.

Really? :dubious: Have you forgotten how to read and write, and do basic arithmetic?

Have you talked to an elementary school student from the past 10 years?

There are other sports that are also worth watching, and curling is more fun to play than just watch.

Do you mean the Floor Scrubbing National Championships or the Iron Man Leaf Rake-Off? I’ve always been partial to Women’s Professional Mopping, until the huge steroid scandal of '82.

Yes. She reads, write, and does math very well. As do her friends.

But, does she do them at the same level? I was rather shocked to learn that times tables aren’t taught until the third grade now (I had to memorize them in k-1). Also, 1-5 is taught in the first semester, 6-10 is taught in the second semester. I had to memorize 1-12. By this schedule, maybe division isn’t taught until 4th grade. I also had my first chance at algebra in 7th grade.

I talked to a 3rd grader, but am looking forward to seeing if they still have to memorize all the presidents and all the states and state capitols and when.

I suspect your own experience may have been unusual - or else you’re much older than me, because my 9-year-old’s curriculum is similar to what mine was.

For the past 40 years or so, the general belief has been that memorization is not the same as learning.

1- Bloom County was a better comic than Calvin and Hobbes

2- The Founding Fathers have been dead for two centuries. We should not care what their thoughts or intentions were.

3- Green Acres was a thousand times better than Seinfeld.

4- The greatest threat to the US is the current hyper-patriotic soldier worship.

5- We should make the old Confederate states secede now.

Correction: Bloom County < Calvin and Hobbes < Outland

  1. The penalties for DUI convictions are outrageously, unreasonably, and unfairly harsh. Far too many lives of good people and their families have been destroyed by MADD vengence for far too long, and it’s well past time to start allowing the punishment to fit the crime.
  2. Discussions on Religion and/or Politics should never be held with anyone with whom you would like to maintain a friendship, but can be a useful tool for ending unwanted friendships.
  3. CEO’s of corporations who receive multi-million dollar bonuses while orchestrating job cuts amongst the average workers should be targeted for extreme acts of public harrassment, humiliation, ostracism, etc.
  4. No tatoo of anything, on any part of the body, on anyone, has ever made them more attractive, interesting, macho, sexy, cool, or improved in any way whatsoever.
  5. A text message should always be short, never more than 100 characters. If you have more to communicate, or if the anticipated response is expected to be lengthy, an actual phone call with real people speaking in real voices should be made.

Naw, I think Outland was Bloom County on crack. Not nearly as good as Bloom County, not even as good as Calvin and Hobbes.

So they learn the alphabet through deduction?
