Post Op Confabulation. How normal is it?

Back in '95, my wife suffered a ruptured aneurism in the brain, has surgery the following day and when she came out of it had a week or so of confabulating — making up these wild tales out of thin air. The doctors told me to correct her every time she spun a tale - gently, of course. Which I did and by the time I brought her home, she had gotten over it. Or so I thought.

We had a wonderful woman “babysit” her at home, because she was still in a rather frail condition. We discovered that my Owlet called the Hospital’s Lost and Found Department, and went into great detail about a 2-piece dress she had left behind and if it turned up, would they please call her?

There was no 2-piece dress, of course, and she has long since recovered completely.

Anyway, fast forward to the present.

A friend of ours recently underwent laparoscopic surgery at a highly renowned cancer hospital recently for the removal of the prostate, and has been confab- ulating to beat the band. He’s been getting morphine for pain. **Would that account for it? **

When my wife was doing that, I thought it was due to the trauma her brain suffered from the bleeding and the surgery itself. Wrong?
