Post some of your favorite feel good songs

Age of Aquarius by The Fifth Dimension
Ooh Child by The Stairsteps
Dancing Queen by ABBA

Not only are these great feel good songs but they are regularly used to invoke such feelings in the movies. I know that Ooh Child was used in Crooklyn and Boyz -n- the Hood. And of course Aquarius in Hair and Dancing Queen(along with other ABBA hits) in Mamma Mia.

What are some of your favorites? They don’t have to be on a soundtrack. Just any song that has that feel good vibe.

No feel good playlist is complete without either ELO’s Mister Blue Sky, or Cheap Trick’s Dream Police!

Love your choices too. ABBA always makes me think of Muriel’s Wedding, which is an awesome feel good movie.

Just off the top of my head:

Higher and Higher.
I Can’t Help Myself

I made a mix CD for a friend who was going through a bad break-up. Just wanted a CD full of happy, feel good music. It starts with waking up, having pancakes, enjoying the day and then going to bed to do it all over again!

Here’s the playlist (it was already typed up):

Sky Pilot Pts 1 & 2 by The Animals do it for me every time.

@ Glory. Those are some great songs! I found most of them on youtube.

A few more from me.

Sixpence None the Richer - Kiss Me
Aretha Franklin - I Say A Little Prayer
Stephanie Mills - I Never Knew Love Like This Before

I actually like Dionne Warwick’s original version better but I couldn’t find a straight interpretation.

Just a quick browse through my iPod yields the following feel-good oldies:

September by Earth Wind and Fire
Grazin’ in the Grass by Friends of Distinction
Love Train by the O’Jays
Wouldn’t it Be Nice by the Beach Boys
[shame]Wake Me Up Before You Go Go by Wham[/shame]
Jump by Van Halen
Isn’t She Lovely by Stevie Wonder
Get Down Tonight by KC and the Sunshine Band

I think I’ll delve further, add some of the above suggestions, and make myself a feel-good playlist.

Well, just to start:

“Heavenly Day” by Patty Griffin: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kWzuLAHnGBQ
“Heart and Soul” by T’Pau: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gJK7dMSd31k

“The Letter” by Joe Cocker: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4RnjWLVyMps
“Get ‘Em Goin’” by Euge Groove: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wU7pRyZnO10

Dang, I was going to post a thread like this!

But anyway, right now songs that are making me smile are
Panic Switch by Silversun Pickups
and a somewhat older song
We are all made of stars by Moby.

And for those with classical tastes:

“The Arrival of the Queen of Sheba,” by G.F. Handel: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-TGKJ9MgCOQ
“The Brandenburg Concerto No.3 - i: Allegro Moderato,” by J.S. Bach: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hZ9qWpa2rIg
“Symphony No. 5 in D,” by William Boyce: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-0ciboqDC4o
“Piano Concerto No. 1,” by P.I. Tchaikovsky: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JbsvPMbC55A
“Violin Concerto in G Major,” by Antonio Vivaldi: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J6b7WH9Le-E&feature=related

“Hello, Hooray” and “School’s Out” both by Alice Cooper, of course!

I have discovered that I grin like an idiot every time I play Thelma Houston’s Don’t Leave Me This Way.

Boy, that takes me back! Good tune.

I like putting on Bob Marley’s “Legend” album when I’m feeling upbeat or just want to relax. “Three Little Birds” is one of my favorites. When one of my sisters got married last year, she was more nervous and out of sorts than usual. “Three Little Birds” was playing on the car radio when all of us sisters, bridesmaids, and flower girls piled into the limo with her. We all sang along, and she was more relaxed after that. That is one of my favorite Bob Marley-related memories.

I’ll see your Don’t Leave Me This Way and raise you a Bob Marley - No Woman No Cry

Show tunes! All That Jazz. One (Singular Sensation). Tonight. Phantom of the Opera.

Love Shack (B-52’s)
Funky Town (Lipps Inc.)
Get Down Tonight - and - That’s The Way I Like It (uh huh, uh huh)
Bad Girls (Donna Summer)
Kiss (Prince - and a thousand others by Prince)
Light My Fire - Alabama Song (the Doors)

and I may be all alone here, but I do love a waltz! A big, loud, crashing waltz, yes, The Blue Danube, Tales of the Vienna Woods, that kind of stuff.

Help Me Rhonda (Beach Boys)
Chain of Fools (Aretha Franklin)

Bolero (by Ravel)

This Will Be Our Year: The Zombies
The Compromise and Oceans: The Format
Walking on Sunshine: Katrina and the Waves
Skullcrusher Mountain: Jonathan Coulton

I love “Dig We Must” (the song they play on The Price is Right when somebody gets a dollar or wins money in their bonus spin during the Showcase Showdown). Sometimes I play it when something good happens, like when the Cubs win or have a big inning.

Thanks! I like to make upbeat mixes a lot. Here’s another happy CD I made for a friend.

Hello Morning - Mutlu
Beautiful Life - Fisher
Everything’s Right - Matt Wertz
Rock & Roll - Eric Hutchinson
Something Beautiiful - Great Big Sea
What About Everything - Carbon Leaf
My Big O (I Can) - Johanna Stahley
Lift You Up - Joe Brooks
You Gotta Be - Des’ree
You Got Me - Tristan Prettyman

Everything is Alright - Motion City Soundtrack
Charmed Life - Leigh Nash
Best Days - Graham Colton
New Shoes - Paolo Nutini
Seasons of Love - cast of Rent

…what?

There’s no shame in liking this song. It’s catchy as hell and anyone who says they don’t like it is likely lying.
