Who was the first player to score a basket in the NBA In-Season Tournament?
Myles Turner of the Indiana Pacers
I didn’t look but I think Joe DiMaggio did, back when there was no rule about having been retired for five years.
Damn, not even close.
Me? Or you?
Who is the last QB to wear a uniform number larger than 19 in the NFL?
John Hadl (21) who played for five teams from 1962 - 1977
What is the largest-sum contract ever signed by an NFL player (on a per-day basis)?
Jerry Rice. He signed a ceremonial 1-day contract with the Niners on August 24, 2006, that was roughly $1.98 million for that day alone. However, Rice was not actually paid the money.
Who is the only baseball Hall of Fame pitcher who never gave up a grand slam? Or back-to-back home runs?
Jim Palmer
ETA: he did give up one grand slam, but it was when he was on a minor league rehab assignment.
I wonder if Babe Ruth ever gave up a Grand Slam (dead ball era).
What three former Cardinals are honored at Yankee Stadium?
“…the Knights of Columbus donated plaques in honor of the Masses celebrated at Yankee Stadium by Pope Paul VI on October 4, 1965, Pope John Paul II October 2, 1979, and Pope Benedict XVI on April 20, 2008” Monument Park (Yankee Stadium) - Wikipedia
No, he didn’t. He only gave up 10 homers total.
Funny thing about Ruth as a pitcher: his career 2.28 ERA looks amazing, but his adjusted ERA+ is 122…the same as Jimmy Key and Corey Kluber. Not that you can really compare eras and ERAs. Some of the dead ball era numbers are just silly looking: Ruth averaged 3.6 Ks per nine innnings, for example.
Ha, good one.
I would have guessed Addie Joss. He only gave up 19 home runs in his career from 1902-1910. I wonder it the play-by-plays are even available to verify about him.
He didn’t surrender a grand slam either, and it wouldn’t be surprising if there were others in the pre-Ruth era.
I just came across this one.
Among all left handed outfielders born on November 21 in Donora, Pennsylvania, Ken Griffey Jr ranks second in career hits.
Who ranks first?
Stan Musial
I beat you to it 200 posts ago. No worries, it’s easily my favorite baseball trivia but.
Nice try, but Miller Huggins and Joe Torre both played for and managed the St. Louis Cardinals, and Roger Maris played for the Cardinals
Sorry, going over my notes (I think it was a Says You question originally), there was an added part missing. I’m reconstructing it from memory, so hopefully isn’t too wonky:
What three former Cardinals are honored at Yankee Stadium, yet never played as Yankees?
“…the Knights of Columbus donated plaques in honor of the Masses celebrated at Yankee Stadium by Pope Paul VI on October 4, 1965, Pope John Paul II October 2, 1979, and Pope Benedict XVI on April 20, 2008” Monument Park (Yankee Stadium) - Wikipedia
I’m not a sports person, so thanks to Kent_Clark to adding more trivia to the answer, and letting me correct it.
On June 5, 1957 - Don Drysdale pitched his first major-league shutout for the Dodgers. In what ballpark did he perform this feat? (hint - it was a home game).
Roosevelt Stadium, in Jersey City. The Dodgers played a few home games there during their final seasons in the East.
Another baseball one:
