Assumedly you are referring to the fact that Stan Washington played his entire career (1 game, 4 minutes) for the Washington Bullets?

How about a player with his first and last names on his jersey?

Answer: Orlando Robinson when he played for the Magic.

Good catch

Of course, the Washington Bullets never had ‘Washington’ on the front of their jerseys…it was ‘bullets’.

According to the WAR metric who is the worst player in major league history?

Jim Levey, -7.2.

Levey played for the Browns, it will surprise no one to learn. He was a .230 hitter with no power in a time (the early 1930s) when offense was really high.

In 1932, his “best” season, he actually got some downballot MVP votes, finishing 19th, I assume because he managed to hit .280 then and was a middle infielder. He still sucked though.

5 pitchers have won the Cy Young Award, and been convicted of a felony. Who are they, and what were there crimes? (Note: all pitchers were convicted after winning the awards. One of the pitchers was convicted in Canada, and his record was quickly expunged)

  1. Denny McClain - Raceteering, extortion, conspiracy, and drug trafficking in 1985, and for embezzlement and mail fraud in 1996.
  1. Dwight Gooden - Reckless endangerment, fleeing police, and multiple probation violations related to drug offenses.
  1. Vida Blue - Convicted of federal cocaine possession charges in 1983.
  1. LaMar Hoyt - Convicted of drug smuggling and possession in 1986, and later served a one-year jail term for violating the parole from this federal conviction.
  1. Ferguson Jenkins - Arrested and convicted in Canada for possession of hashish, marijuana, and cocaine in 1980, though his record was immediately expunged by the judge, allowing him to avoid a prison sentence.

Who is the only player to hit the first MLB pitch thrown to him for a grand slam?

Also Daniel Nava, Red Sox, 6/12/2010

Thanks for that - I thought there was just one.

The 1992 US Men’s basketball team, AKA the ‘Dream Team’, is widely considered the best team ever assembled. They won all their games in Barcelona by an average of 44 points. What country did they defeat in the gold medal game?

Croatia

Today I learned this interesting piece of trivia.

In 1979, in the Major League Baseball draft, the Kansas City Royals selected two high school pitchers who would both eventually end up in the Hall of Fame. The NFL Hall of Fame. Who were these pitchers?

Dan Marino, a pitcher for Central Catholic High School in Pittsburgh, and John Elway, a pitcher for Granada Hills High School in California.

Got one out of two.

Last night, Yankees manager Aaron Boone was ejected for the 50th time as manager (excluding his playing career), placing him 2nd on the active list.

Who is first on the list? (A little thought should make this an obvious answer)

Terry Francona, with 55 ejections)

Which manager is first on the career list, with 162?

Bobby Cox

I would have guessed Billy Martin or Earl Weaver.

Weaver is fourth. I guessed Leo Durocher, who’s in third. John McGraw is second.

Martin is tied for 27th, with Tommy Lasorda.

Here’s a new one: name the MLB player who homered in each of his first three plate appearances.

I just turned that game off in disgust.

Joshua Baez of the Cardinals
