Post your oldest Death Pool list. Who's still alive?

My first picks:

John Paul Stevens (2019)
Ted Stevens (2010)
***Amy Winehouse (2011)
Mary-Kate Olsen ← Alive
Liza Minelli ← Alive
Janet Jackson ← Alive
Jade Goody ← 73 Points!
Bob Barker ← Alive
Tony Curtis (2010)
Ron White ← Alive
Tim Conway (2019)
Eminem ← Alive
Eddie Van Halen (2020)

Analysis:

  • Six out of thirteen are still kicking it.
  • I took Ted Stevens and Tony Curtis off my 2010 list. Figures.
  • I’m still chasing my Jade Goody high. For one brief, shining moment, I was almost at the top.

My only time doing it - in 2009:

OJ Simpson
Ted Kennedy (d. 2009)
Elizabeth Taylor (d. 2011)
Yoko Ono
Tommy Chong
Fidel Castro (d. 2016)
John McCain (d. 2018)
Amy Winehouse (d. 2011)
Bob Newhart
Brian Wilson
Dean Smith (d. 2015)
Patrick Swayze (d. 2009)
Hank Aaron (d. 2021)

Alternate
Hank Williams Jr

Since the only two celebrities I scored points on were shoe-ins, since they both had cancer at the time, I realized the Death Pool was not the game for me.

I remember that list! The year it was posted though only two of the picks died, Thurl Ravenscroft and James Stockdale. Both were 91 so I got only 18 points.

Thurl Ravenscroft was the first voice for Tony the Tiger. He was also the singing voice in How the Grinch Stole Christmas. I saw a picture of him and don’t know why he wasn’t in front of the camera, he looked good.

James Stockdale, the admiral, was the VP running mate for H. Ross Perot. I watched the VP debate in 92 and that’s why I voted for the ticket. He could give short, to the point, and honest answers, unlike Al Gore or Dan Quayle. His response to the question about his stance on abortion rights was pure gold. He said “I believe that what a woman does with her own body is her business, period.” When the moderator looked at him as if to ask that’s it? he repeated “Period,”

My first list was in 2018:

Norman Lloyd (d. 2021, age 106)
Olivia de Havilland (d. 2020, age 104)
Kirk Douglas (d. 2020, age 103)
Marsha Hunt (d. 2022, age 104)
Carol Channing (d. 2019, two weeks shy of 98)
Betty White (d. 2021, two weeks shy of 100)
Carl Reiner (d. 2020, age 98)
Doris Day (d. 2019, age 97)
Eva Marie Saint: alive, age 99
Dick van Dyke: alive, age 97
June Lockhart: alive, age 98
Angela Lansbury (d. 2022, 5 days shy of 97)
Sidney Poitier (d. 2022, age 94)

Alternates:
Joe Turkel (d. 2022, age 94)
Conrad Janis (d. 2022, age 94)
Peggy Dow: alive, age 95

Five years later and they’re both still alive.

That was a bold list. I did a similar one once, all pelple at least 95, but got only three points. And one died just after the year ended. That was Alicia Rhett, the last living actor in Gone with the Wind to have a significant speaking part.

The very first SDMB Death Pool list…

…and the five people still alive twenty-four years later.

Leo DiCaprio
Snoop Dogg
Robert Downey Jr
Kate Moss
Roseanne

Plus the five people who died, but not in 2000.

Kirk Douglas
Richard Pryor
Anna Nicole Smith
Elizabeth Taylor
Scott Weiland

Posted from above in this thread. 5 years later not a lot more movement. RIP Willard.

He did die in 2020.

All of my subsequent lists used the same theme of entertainers over 90.

2013 was my first year

The Dead:
George H.W. Bush
Mary Tyler Moore
Billy Graham (AKA Wayne Coleman, the wrestler)
Hugo Chavez
Jalal Talabani
Penny Marshall
Roger Ebert
Aretha Franklin
Muhammad Ali
Johan Friso (my alternate who died that year and would have been worth a lot and a unique pick)

The Living:
William Perry (the Fridge)
Pete Doherty
Rick Ross
Artie Lange

Ah, Artie, one of the great Death Pool survivors of the past. I had him more likely to die than almost any addicts. He just looked like he’d spiral to death.

Very glad he cleaned up.
