Posting a link to Wikipedia isn’t an answer to a question (no, not even to a question that can be answered by a link to Wikipedia).
if you read from the start, post 25 is pure gold.
Thank you for the originating references, much obliged.
Sure it is, it’s just the answer to the question the OP didn’t, but probably should have, asked themselves - which is, “what page would a 10 second google search provide me that contains the answer to this question I probably shouldn’t waste everyone’s time with?”
I see your point, but I’d bet that most people read “Dear” in that context as a word announcing the beginning of a letter or email, rather than a term of affection.
Probably guilty of this myself, but here goes:
When a poster begins by saying, “As most of you probably already know…”. Usually, I have NO idea what they are talking about, and their username is generally completely unfamiliar to me. Seems pretty ballsy to assume you’re that memorable.
I hate when people quote poetry or song lyrics and it goes on forever. Especially when it’s the sole content of their post.
Oh man I am laughing all over again at that.
In particular Cervaise’s first post, which I think is the wittiest thing I’ve ever read on the SDMB.
Cervaise didn’t post in that thread.
Why didn’t I read your post instead of spending the last 10 minutes looking for Cervaise’s post? WHY?
Yes, to both. I hate the whole “what do you think of this” type post. If you think it’s important enough to start a thread about, you can post a summary or cut & paste a paragraph or two.
I also agree with Little Nemo when he sez "I hate those “I deny the existence of this work” posts. Something “I really loved The Matrix. Thank God they never made a sequel to it.”
Also here in the Pit, when someone complains about posting style, immediately a number of 8 year olds will post exactly that (don’t we have a age requirement?). It’s rarely funny.
I also hate “Here let me fix that for you”. Not funny, and sometimes against the rules, depending on how done.
Joke answers to the OP in GQ- before the real answer has been posted. Sure, once a solid authoritative answer has been posted, then make your little pathetic penis jokes. (and by that I mean your penis is little and pathetic).
It would be much harder to come up with a posting style I actually like, rather than the low hanging fruit of almost everyone who posts.
Mea culpa. :o
I meant the death ray thread which isn’t even linked here. No idea how I found it.
You’re not even on the tree anymore.
The worst possible posting style would be complaints about how other people post.
Very postmodern.
whatabout unitelligeble&*^^ gibberish&^^&(^(^(^???
From the incredibly inane and seemingly endless trolling thread ‘Rantings about stupid nuclear reporting, and I want to bitchslap somebody, also other crap’:
This is pretty much a good representative sample from the thread in question. Here FXM is trolling for people to pay attention to him by quoting a post made by levdrakon pages and pages ago (not that I’m going to go back and see exactly where Lev posted that in a 29 page cluster fuck of a thread). On the page in question, FXM’s posts are about 80% of all the posts on the page, with a few guest appearances from notable posters such as gonzo, and a couple one off posts by a few others. It’s almost exclusively the FXM show, and has been for most of the thread.
I’d say if there is one posting style I REALLY hate (besides the drive by link from gonzomax) it’s this. Why the mods continue to allow this bullshit is a mystery to me.

GQ: It’s serious business.
So’s my dick. It’s a turf war.
Your dick is a turf war? Are you trying to manscape out the crabs or something? Jesus, man. See a doctor.
