I agree. But my gastroenterologist, who is renowned in the field and who is also a hepatologist, insists that the max should be two drinks a week! This wasn’t advice tailored for me in respect to any particular medical condition, she stated it as a basic principle. I think she’s just very excessively conservative, as it’s hard to imagine a couple of drinks a day with a few days a week of abstinence in between could be seriously harmful.
I don’t see alcohol and cannabis as any kind of substitutes for each other as their psychoactive effects are so completely different that they’re essentially opposites, although effects of cannabis vary greatly with the individual as well as the specific type and method of ingestion. Despite this, I think the decline in alcohol use among young people who just want to party and get high on something may indeed be due to the increased prevalence of cannabis. It’s certainly a safer high than alcohol in just about every measurable respect.
Eh, I used to drink rum around a campfire on our wilderness camping trips with no issue. Alcohol doesn’t automatically mean “hangover” – it’s a matter of limiting quantity. Cannabis doesn’t produce any sort of hangover in the sense of “I feel sick” the next day, but the potent stuff produced by modern cannabis farms can still leave you with a dreamy feeling that’s not conducive to maximum alertness.
Safety professions in Canada where cannabis is legal, like airline pilots and police, have serious restrictions on their use of cannabis ranging from complete prohibition to abstention from a period of weeks to a month before resuming duty.
Poking at myself only, I had a number of posts that mentioned a certain topic that has come back to bite me:
To have more ‘pin-point’ moderation means we would need more mods, and considering how they’re treated, who would volunteer for the shiny jackboots when all they get is grief? I mean, personally, I think several posters would be more than able to do the work, but all of them have repeatedly said they wouldn’t do it even if paid a living wage, much less for free.
So it’s not like I can even claim ignorance…
I believe I had several more over the years and threads that were even more direct, but couldn’t find them in a quick search.
