Potted orchid is growing big aerial root. Do I need to do something?

I have a potted orchid which is blossoming beautifully, but is now growing an extended horizontal aerial root. Here is a jpg for illustration.

I understand this is quite common for orchids, but I wonder if this root, which I think is getting quite long relative to the size of the overall plant, indicates something that I should be doing something about. Does it mean the flower is short of nutrients, so I should add fertiliser? Is it an attempt to grow a clone, so I should do something to facilitate that? Or anything else of that sort?

If it makes any difference, the plant sits in hydroponic clay pebbles rather than soil.

Orchid roots do that kind of thing. I have some that have more roots outside the pot than inside the pot. If you don’t regularly fertilize, look up what they recommend to do for the media you use. Personally, I grow in bark mixes and fertilize maybe twice a month with a 50% strength mixture. Whatever brand you use in your garden will work fine.

I’m far from an orchid expert, but I’ve grown Phalaenopsis that commonly do this, and they’ve been healthy and repeat bloomers.

The only thing I’ve done is to mist the aerial roots on occasion.
