Can powdercoat be applied over chrome ?
Given the nature of the process it should be possible.
I don’t see why not… waiting for someone who has tried it and failed to tell us why it didn’t work for them.
Powdercoating works on any impermeable surface that can take the oven temp. A highly polished surface like mirror-polished stainless or chrome might have a slight tendency to peel if the coating is ever chipped, slightly more than a rougher metal surface, but I’ve seen quite a few very smooth, polished, even mirror items coated successfully.
Cleanliness of the surface is paramount, as is exact control of the oven temp and timing for the best bake.
Normally no. Best to get the part sand blasted or chemically treated to remove the chrome first.
Chemical treatment will only help if the substrate metal is already roughed up. If not, then sandblasting will be necessary to rough up the surface, regardless of whether the chrome is there or not.
