Praise the gods and pass the beer!

Republican Senator Phil Gramm has decided not to run for re-election! According to this article, the Texas Turtle will step down.

With Gramm’s decision not to run, this is the third old-guard conservative Republican leaving office. I can’t begin to tell you all how happy this makes me. If the Democratic Party ever gets its shit together (a chancy thing even under the best of circumstances), there is a real chance for the Senate to become more strongly Democratic.

So, Senator Gramm, please take your turtle-looking ass, your tittie movies, and that moron Dicky Flatt and get the hell out of Washington. And if Texas A&M University really wants you as their president, they deserve no better.

Err…you can keep the tittie movies here, Phil…

So, tell me again why the tittie movies are a bad thing…

Oh, and I agree, it’s about time for the Democratic Party to get us some better people in Washington! Some good wholesome folks, like Gary Con(dit), and BJ Clinton!

Now it’s the Democrats’ turn to unload some left-wing dipshits–fair is fair. Start with Ted Kennedy–I’m sure he’d be happy to go watch titty movies with Gramm.

This usually happens when power changes hands. As I recall several prominent Democrats resigned or didn’t run for reelection when the Republicans took over in 1994. (Wasn’t that when Bill Bradley gave it up).

It isn’t as much fun being the minority party, so I imagine it strikes many people as a good time to move on.

I disagree strongly with Phill Gramm on many things but unlike Helms it isn’t a personal disagreement. I feel he was an honorable man who knew what he believed; what he believed was just different than my beliefs.

The fact that when he wanted to switch parties he resigned his seat and reran is an indicative statement, I believe; one that I would like to see more party switchers (in either direction) make.

Ditto. As a former Norf Care-uh-lye-nuh resident, I dislike Helms on many levels. Gramm has been much more a straight shooter in my book.

Of course, he’s still scum. That Senate muck won’t never wash off.

Hi, I’m one of the guys who hopes that Jesse Helms will hurry up and die.

I do not feel the same way about Phil. I saw him do something both brave and uncharacteristic once, but I’m unforutnately unable to describe that due to client privilege. Suffice to say that while he barks loudly, the man understands the role of a Senator far better than some of his older companions. I suspect that in post-Washington life he will distinguish himself as a thoughtful and effective person, and I wish him well in that regard.

Heh. How’s that for a rant?
