Prayers and Positive Vibes and Thoughts Needed for Grace

One of my best friends, Grace, has a very sick kitty.

I am kicking myself for living so far away from her when she needs me. So all I can think of to do, besides praying, is to ask for prayers and positive thoughts and whatever else you feel like sending her way.

She LOVES her kitty. Please help.

Cheri

I have heard how sick her Athena is. I hope she is going to be ok.

Lots of love and prayers going out to Grace. It is so hard when you are so close to a pet and it is so sick.

Hoping,
Jim

Oh, Grace, hon, I am so sorry. I’m right here, and will do whatever you need. My prayers and thoughts are with your dear Athena and you. I pray that she rallies and pulls through this. I know how much she means to you.

I’m sending all my positive energy to you and your kitty, Grace. I hope everything is okay.

C’mon Athena! C’mon!

You know you have my thoughts and prayers, love.

Best wishes for the cat, and for you too, Grace.

Thanks everyone. I appreciate your good thoughts and prayers. Athena has been sick for a couple of months. She was diagnosed with colangio hepatitis a couple of months ago. Then a week or so ago, I took her in for what I thought was an eye infection and it turned out to be glaucoma. She stopped eating and weighed 5.5 lbs. We scheduled her surgery to remove her blind eye and we thought she was doing better.

The vet called today and said she had taken a turn for the worse. He’s only given her 12-24 hours to live. I’m very sad about it, but I’m hoping and praying that she’ll pull through. I’m going to pick her up in the morning (hopefully) and bring her home. I don’t know if she thinks I’ve abandoned her and that’s why she’s gotten worse or her illness is worse than we think.

In any case, keep Athena and my family in your thoughts and prayers. Mr. Grace and I don’t have any children so we’ve babied our kitty so it feels like we’re losing a member of our family.

Oh, Grace, I hope the doctor is wrong. Lots of prayers coming your way.

Here’s hoping being home will make all the difference.

We put Athena to sleep this morning. Dr. Lindsey called this morning that Athena had made it through the night, but had vomited all night and was unresponsive. He recommended that we put her down. I got dressed and went to the hospital and when I saw her, she was completely unresponsive. She didn’t even know I was there. Her breathing was very labored and her body was twitching as if she were having seizures. I sat with her and petted her and she made very faint mewling sounds. I don’t know if it was from the breathing or that I was there.

Brian got there a little after I did and we were with her at the end. We continued to pet and stroke her. Her abdomen was sensitive and she cried out when we touched her there. Dr. Lindsey turned her away so he could get to her catheter. She was facing away from me at that point and I’m glad. I continued to stroke her head between her ears and at 8:50 a.m., Dr. Lindsey inserted the chemicals to put her to sleep. I continued to talk to her and it was over very quickly. She took a breath and then just stopped. The process took less than 5 seconds.

Brian and I stayed with her about five more minutes, talking to her, and saying goodbye. We had already made arrangements to have cremated and her remains scattered over the cemetary so we left.

I’m so SO sorry, honey. My cat is my baby too, so I know how hard this is for you.
