There is a 16 year old Salvadoran girl at my church named Haydeet. She got very sick last week an was admitted to the hospital. They found a mass on her pancreas, which was probably cancerous. Last I heard the pathology was not in. They removed it monday, but it was wrapped around a major artery, which was damaged in the surgery.
Tuesday night she started bleeding internally. He hemoglogin count went down to 5. She is on medication to raise her blood presure, but it constricts the distal blood vessels so much that she may lose fingers and toes. However that is the least of her problems.
She is in heart, liver, and kidney failure.
She weighed 105 pounds. To increase her blood pressure they have pumped over 50 pounds of fluid into her. She is bloated and unrecognizeable.
To keep her from bucking the ventilator she is chemically paralyzed. Her blood pressure is so perilously low that they dare not give her much pain medicine. She is suffering terribly. She cannot even blink. Her eyes are covered in a moisturizing cream to keep them from drying out. So she lays there struggling but unable to cry out.
Tonight the doctors gave her less than 10% chance of survival. The family is devastated. Without a miracle they will move to paliative care in the next several hours.
She is in a fantastic hospital in Richmond, VA. While there is life, there is hope.

Was up there last night until midnight. The family is hanging in there. They have pumped more fluid into her, if you can believe it. But there are giving her more pain meds now. I really hope she is unaware of what is happening.
Her blood pressure top number is hovering around 70, which means she will o into cardiac arrest if it slips further. The family has asked that they do one round of resusitation and then stop. Honestly I don’t know how anyone will give her chest compressions in her state.

We prayed in english and in spanish. The prayers have shifted from asking for a miracle to asking for peace.
