I am currently on a plan and dont have prepaid, but my mobile is going a little bit strange so i was going to buy a pre-paid siemens with the camera and stuff and wanted to know whether this phone would work with my current im card even though its not a prepaid sim or whether they are in some way locked?
I don’t know which of the Atlantic you are on, or pacific for that matter but you can transfer a rented SIM to a pay as you go, and vice versa, in the UK and Ireland and Is suspect the same holds for the US due to the requirement for number portability.
If you buy the prepaid phone from the same service provider as the one you subscribe to, then you can probably put your old sim in the new phone. Sim-locked phones can usually only be used with sims from the same service provider that locked them. Best to ask before you buy the phone though, the service providers don’t mind you doing this as long as you plan to remain their customer, so they will tell you.
Even if your new phone is locked to a particular network, there are plenty of places (at least here in the UK anyway) that will unlock the phone for a small fee.
