Pre-Poll: Funniest Movie Of All Time

That was a very near second for me.

Being John Malkovich

Wow, if I put this much thought into important decisions…

Swingers

Funniest seems like a quantitative question: which film has the most funny? So from that perspective I don’t think there’s any contest, it has to be Airplane! It is relentlessly funny in every single frame, and I can’t think of any other film that comes close.

There are other films that have better humor or some particularly hilarious moments, but for laughs-per-minute, Airplane! is head and shoulders above the rest.

Don’t call it stupid!

Also, Fierce Creatures.

“Don’t you just want to fondle them?”

But there’s funny and there’s funny, and a long continuum between. Airplane may easily have the most things you could check off on a clipboard that are ‘jokes;’ however, many of them are groan-worthy and/or throwaways.

Other movies have more phenomenally clever and deeper jokes that can make people laugh harder and longer.

When you step into a voting booth, one candidate might be great in some situations and another candidate might be great in other situations, but you can only vote for one.

Are we including animation? If so, it’s What’s Opera, Doc?

If not, it’s Some Like It Hot.

Blazing Saddles

Strangelove

I’ve got two:

The In-Laws. The original with Peter Falk and Alan Arkin.

And good Chicagoan that I am The Blues Brothers.

The Music Box - Laurel and Hardy. It’s only a short but you’ll be laughing the whole 29 mins.

Airplane! I thought this would easily get the most votes.

Arthur. (Original with Dudley Moore- NOT the remake.)

He’s not asking you to vote. He’s compiling a list of movies that people think are the funniest movies ever. THEN he’ll ask you to vote.

Since Arthur raises the issue of remakes, was this a nomination for the 1968 or 2005 version?

What’s Opera, Doc? is an animated short, not a movie.
