So I just picked up the first bound book and must say that this is some insane, entertaining shit. Not for the kiddies.
Couple questions though.
How many books are there? As far as bound novels I mean.
Does that one kid missing half his face come back into the story later on?
Does Cassidy come back?
Dont go into to much detail, I dont want massive spoilers cause I will probably buy them all.
Is it worth reading this thing thru to the end? I know there are alot of books and they aint cheap. Dont want to waste money.
Also, whats with Steve Dillon’s fascination with peoples faces getting torn off? Lots of shots of peoples faces, or pieces of them, getting blasted off.
I heard there is a movie in the possible works. I know hollywood will almost surely f this one up.
Hmmmm, okay, I’ve only read about four of the books, so I don’t know the exact number. The series ended with issue 66, so divide how many issues per TPB into 66 and there you go.
If the kid you’re refering to is Arseface, then YES, he comes back into the story. BIG time.
Cassidy is one of the three main characters, so you’ll definitely be seeing a LOT of him. And he’s cool as shit.
And yes, it is definitely worth reading all the way thru to the end…unless you’re a big hard core Christian, because then, you’re likely to get very offended. I’m not so much, but the very end even kind of offended me. Aside from that though, it’s GREAT!!! Very twisted, but great.
If you’re upset with the whole face thing, get used to it. It’s an easy kill, and so, well, that pretty much explains it. But if you think that’s bad, just wait till you see what happens to Star along the way. He’s a bastard, but you just can’t help but feel sorry for him.
And yes, I too heard that they are planning on making a movie, but if they do that, they will indeed fuck it up.
I was just reading about the movie on IGN and they said that Kevin Smith is exec producing it, so maybe it will have a chance to not suck too bad.
Also, in the script review I read, he keeps saying that Jesse’s main enemies are people named Jody and TC. I dont remember reading about them in the first book. IGN says that the script is based off of Gone to Texas so did I miss something? Are these people that show up later in the series?
Jody and T.C. are Jesse’s uncles. When you read “Gone to Texas,” you’ll see just how fucked up small town livin’ can be, and be greatful for your family, no matter how fucked up you think it is.
In response to the OP, Preacher is one of my favorite comics. If you’ve enjoyed what you’ve read so far and can take the nasty and irreverent with a grain of salt, it’s well worth spending the cash on.
The other questions seem to have been answered already, although I too must chime in with my wondering about Ennis’ obsession with the human ass.
2 small nits that I simply must pick:
Jody and T.C. aren’t Jesse’s uncles. They’re in a family that has worked for Jesse’s for as long as anyone can remember.
The name of the very scary gentleman is The Saint of Killers not Saint Killer. Sorry, but it’s a minor difference that changes the meaning.
