Bound to happen the way the match was going…Brazil one up, execution style!
Wow! Never mind, Brazil’s doing Egypt’s work for them!
Ha!
Brazil 3 - 0 Italy
They are going to need a lot more than luck this time.
Mother of Og! If I am not again mistaken, we’re one goal away from witnessing a football miracle! I won’t even say what it is so as not to jinx it.
No goals away now. I can’t believe Italy could barely get a shot off at an open net.
Wow.
Hmm, so that what it feels like when you’re hoping the clock will go faster, not slower.
Un[deleted]ing believable!
I should never have watched the first two games, obviously.
The US finally showed up and played the soccer they are capable of. I’ll know just how well they actually played when I watch it later. But obviously, they weren’t just walking around, and if I’m not mistaken, I actually saw some emotion out of Coach Bradley in reaction to the goals.
Bring on the Red Fury!!!
::::stunned::::
Congrats to all American footie fans. Well done on your end. Unlikely (and that’s quite the understatement!) as it came about, look forward to our meeting on Wednesday.
Talking about “comprehensive” that’s exactly the kind of trashing Brazil gave Italy. If anyone needed to be exposed here as hugely overrated, it was The Azzurri. And so it came to pass.
Well, I was half right. RedFury scheduled to be laughing at us later this week.
Congrats once over. But no need to worry on that score. We’ll be there alright.
They looked like a completely different team today. Bradley was the hero with the third goal, but he was probably the worst player on the pitch for the U.S. The first goal was due to sloppy play by Egypt but the nest two were very nice and came from the run of play.
Altidore had a good game (and had a goal blocked by a handball that the ref missed) but was unexplicably subbed in the second half by Bradley. The defense was very stout.
You guys have my respect as is – never thought this could happen, just comes to show that’s why they play the games. So I’m neither going to brag prior to, nor laugh afterwards should we happen to win. Besides, not like you’re The Azzurri – I hold nor grudges nor animosities towards your team.
One match. Anything can happen.
Good luck!
Is the Confederations Cup played under friendly rules or normal tournament rules?
Why? I know that the full roster is available, not just a select 18, but not sure which that falls under, if either.
From here: [PDF] Regulations FIFA Confederations Cup South Africa 2009
By tournament rules, I presume you are talking about substitutions. In which case, yes, it’s a real tournament game, with substitutions limited to 3 per team.
However, as noted, they have a larger “bench” than usual.
Wow, I DVR’d the US match just hoping to see some progress from the first two debacles; I certainly never in a million years expected this to happen. Maybe luck is on our side, bring on Spain! (With luck on our side we will only lose 2-0).
As a way of bumping this back up in prep for tomorrow’s match: RedFury is there any good information you can share from your end? I’m seeing a lot of stuff on the USMNT blog about encounters with the Spanish media. They’ve been described as very polite. Also read an amateur translation where the Spanish coach had some nice things to say about US, which made everyone a bit disappointed that Spain weren’t looking past us to a final with Brazil.
I thought I DVR’ed our match but it turned out to be the Brazil - Italy match. Are there any replays scheduled between now and tomorrow afternoon?
