Prepaid Sim cards in the USA

I plan to visit the us next month. How can i get a prepaid sim card for my gsm mobile?

Both AT&T and T-Mobile will sell you a SIM card and prepaid plan from their stores.

Make sure you verify the frequency your phone uses to the frequency used in the US, as they may be different.
T-Mobile Frequencies
AT&T frequencies (I think they’ve added the HSPA 2100 as well)

if you have a smartphone, pay as you go data is VERY expensive. Rates here. The only unlimited data plan is for non-smartphones

I use an ATT GoPhone plan (10¢/minute) on an old iPhone, but I disable Cellular Data and rely on wifi.

my phone will work there, can i buy a card online?

guess i can

Strange. When I talked to T-Mobile, the only way to get a prepaid SIM card was to actually buy the prepaid phone and remove the SIM from it. Do they actually sell just the SIM, then?

I bought a T-Mobile SIM from a T-Mobile shop in the international terminal at LAX. So they definitely do sell just the SIM (or at least they did a year ago). If I remember correctly, I paid $60 and it came with $50 of prepaid airtime. Or something like that.

what about newark? (EWR)

I paid $15 for an ATT GoPhone SIM with $15 of airtime at an ATT store in a mall. I have heard that some independent dealers are funny about selling them without a phone or for use in an iPhone. Looking for a micro SIM may be a problem.

You can get a SIM for AT&T on the cheap by purchasing a pay as you go phone from Walmart or Target. I purhcased one for about $20
