Just spent the last two hours watching this video. I find it utterly fascinating. He was four years out of office at that point and I suspect this was his first “open to the floor” speaking event since resigning in disgrace.
Throughout the video you can hear protesting outside. Shouts of “liar”, “crook”, “bastard” along with some more flowery chants. Nixon however took it in jokingly… “those outside make me feel very much at home!”
You hear speak, evaluate, educate really on politics and policy through his experiences as congressman, vice president and president which is interesting enough but there’s a humourous side to him I’ve not seen before. He still looks stiff at times but he seems a lot more at ease here than in regular, routine interviews I’ve seen of him. Perhaps because they were simply students and his inner paranoia and suspicion didn’t apply to them the way a professional journalist would.
