Why are the photogs cameras so loud. At times, the clicking can drown out what is being said.
My Coolpix allows me to turn off the clicking noise. Are these folks still shooting film?

I noticed this same issue in shows like CSI, and figured they just had to have the sound in there or it wouldn’t be believable to the audience that pictures were actually being taken. Why in the world they can’t turn the noise off at press conferences is a great question.
They are using digital SLRs, which make as much noise as film SLRs, except there’s no film to wind.
You’re hearing the mirror snap up and back down, a defining feature of an SLR (film or digital). Pretty much all other cameras don’t use a mirror like this so they don’t have the sound.
Why do press photogs use DSLRs pretty much exclusively? They are the most robust cameras on the market, with the best image quality and performance. You could probably do the job with quieter cameras but generally, they don’t.
Well, that solves that.
I thought it was distracting at today’s news conference. Why ten pictures of a stationary object per second?
