Heh, that takes me back! My first new admission on Day One of my internship, July 1, 1983, had listeria meningitis, probably from contaminated cheese. Saw him in the ER, dxed meningitis based on nuchal rigidity, tapped his spinal fluid, got him on antibiotics, nursed him thru temps of 106, and he lived to WALK out of the hospital! Then I presented a grand rounds paper on Listeria Meningitis.
That was the peak of my career. It’s been downhill since. But that one day of glory…
